Quote from odd man out: “please share. I haven't been to a travel forum in a long time ” Well there certainly is a "take my trip, damnit" vibe that is much worse than what one would get on a hiking forum. Just like on TOS, travelers seek advice regarding their packing list. It's like reading a J Peterman catalog. I was surprised to the degree that folks relate their frequent flyer or airline status as though they're celebrity name dropping. People b*tch and and moan about airline service. They c…

Quote from TrafficJam: “I've been wondering...thought it was getting close. Have a great time. ” Oh, I intend to! Reservations long ago made, tickets bought and everything is paid for. So now just counting down the days. Now y'all thought the "hike my hike, damnit!" types were bad... They're tame compared to travel forum posters

Quote from max.patch: “Quote from Tuckahoe: “Yeah a guilty pleasure... But this kid was simply amazing! I'll admit to a lil tear -- youtube.com/watch?v=JsUh89t6F24 ” ya beat me to it. i was gonna post the video -- becasue of what simon said at 5:30. ” And a little ironic considering the whole song was about the kid learning who she is, finding her own voice and getting people to notice her... and then Simon compared her to Taylor Swift... in a good way though .

Powdered Peanut butter
Tuckahoe - - Trail Chefs
PostQuote from Astro: “Quote from Tuckahoe: “Honestly, I just do not understand the fascination with powdered peanut butter products. Peanuts and peanut butter is one of the most all around nutrient complete foods, and it make no sense to squeeze nearly all of those nutrients out... why? ” weight? ” Bollocks! And just plain silliness. We're not talking of a food product with a significant moisture content, in which it makes sense to remove for both reduced weight and preservation. Powdered peanut bu…

Portable Camp Kitchen

PostQuote from Wise Old Owl: “This is my idea of a portable camp kitchen... where's the coffee? 208453c77f8a8c2895b4bf4119c86fb2.jpg ” Unless you've got a Lewis and Clark fetish or play Oregon Trail, that ain't portable.

As some may recall through the years I've talked about the wrens that come to the shop an build a nest each year. This has been going for more than six years now. And this year was no different. At the end of April the nest was built and eggs laid by the first of May and five babies hatched by the 16th. They'd be leaving the nest by June 1. Well walked into the forge to an extremely agitated set of wren parents defending their nest and attacking a black snake. It had climbed the wall and got in…

PostWait! You're flogging some garbage rice mix with vermicelli as filler, but, call the company out for a lack of beef, all the while they rightly call it a beef flavored sauce?

I saw my first rattlesnake last August 2015, while hiking from the Priest south. This was what I wrote about that experience -- Just about three weeks back now, it was along this section that I saw my first two rattlesnakes. Three of us left camp in the area of Seely-Woodsworth Shelter and were heading to Cow Camp Gap for the night. A few miles up the trail I was a couple hundred yards ahead of my two buddies and when I got to Wolf Rocks I thought it was a perfect spot to wait for them to catch …
