There are lots of bike trails here, best way to travel really in the flatlands. Although there are lots of nice rails to trails projects popping up. You really have to dip into the more shady definitions of stealth camping around here but you can string 500+ mile trips together and pedal from town to town with your pack in a trailer next to your cooler of beer. Bit like canoeing without a river...

BB- You are playing with two designs that I never did- the capillary hoop and the bud bottles. But that said I think you will either figure it out and make your pretty can's work, or settle on the already perfect stove design and seek out some pretty can's to match it. In that vein may I suggest one such pretty can you could likely work with-

Maybe my eyeball tape is broken but... Looks like the burner holes are lower due to the fiddling you had to do to get the bud collet to work. Which made the holes lower down the wall and unable to get up and over the lip to light? Had that issue before with the coors cone top. Coke can collet is flat, this one curved a bit so more volume and less pressure coming out for the fuel to light (pure speculation) For the inner wall- what about a slightly bigger thin wall can and over lapping one corrig…

Theoretically to be a real hiker you must have the best gear and it must be the latest version, as gear constantly comes out other then the miles spend driving to REI to purchase upgrades it is impossible to earn sufficient trail miles as you cannot really hit the trail until you have the right gear. Although the right way to buy gear is of course to drive to the home of a cottage manufaturer and meet them in person and purchase the right gear from the right people and most working people should…

My wife Kathy and I have been there twice in the winter time to experience dog sled camping and thought it would probably make a nice summer spot too.” Boundary Waters is a gateway drug that should come with a warning label.

Quote from BirdBrain: “Here is my dilemma: I can boil 2 cups of 70° water in under 4 minutes with 15 ml of SLX using the side burner design that I am trying to perfect, but I cannot seem to transfer that technology to the aluminum Budweiser bottles. Another issue is that it will not prime on its own outside a cone. It primes with a woof inside the cone in about 8 seconds. The only can that I can seem to make work with this design is a 7.5 ounce soda can. The stove only weighs 10 grams. I am leer…

BB- Not sure if it would get too hot but you may consider the inside burner with taller sidewalls to serve as windscreen/potstand. Build the stove as it currently sits but run the upper sidewalls up, roll the top, and punch a row of hole punch sized holes for ventilation and to let a little flame spillout. You may need a lower row for air intake but it may make a very efficient stove. Basically add the top of the elevated Cat stove design I posted before with the inside burner capilary stove you…

My wife is due in early June, hopefully she's au natural and everyone is healthy. But wife and baby will probably be out of commission for most of the summer so- If I can figure it out, Just Bill and Little Will will be camping and hopefully backpacking. Probably dreaming but I have some minor hopes to bring him out and do Maryland this year (he's 3 1/2 this summer) Gotta make my own pack if that's the case as even SUL gear none of the kid carrier packs are meant for solo parents, they all top o…

I was thinking mini version for small pots- still no pot stand, just a smaller version- but no worries- it's your problem now, don't let me add another dimension to your madness. Yar- careful with that new one. I had a few runaways and dangerous combos. The one I showed that melted the walls of the can and the turkey pan windscreen comes to mind as does the double pinhole jet experiment that spit flame. The capillary design seems like a sweet way to build pressure, which is fun to play with. Bes…
