  • Tarptent Double Rainbow

Quote from Rasty: “I think you will be very happy with the Double Rainbow. ” Rasty, it's good to hear from you, I hope all is well. Based on the success of the 2 other Tarptent.com tents we have I'm expecting this one to be just as good. We have a Rainbow for when either Kathy or I go out solo, a Rainshadow for when Kathy, me, and the dog all go together and now the Double Rainbow for just me and Kathy.

I've been to the hospital emergency room twice, over the years, for heat stroke. ” As one who grew up in Florida, I have no doubt that if I attempted the dog sled trip you and wife took in MN that you told us about I would have ended up in the ER. Or worse.Tip -- don't plan on hiking GA in August. ” I have hiked in GA in late July and on into NC in early August. Not a problem for me, but just like …

You'd think people -- especially medical professionals -- would know better. ” Maybe they do....they may know something we don't, but who am I to say.

Now I'm not sure if this is the right year to plan this trip. It is located in California and they have some strict Covid rules. South Tahoe has basically shut down B&B to keep tourists out. ” Maybe things will be under control by summer or late summer in California. ” or anyplace else for that matter. • The Chilkoot Trail has my interest. It's not exactly outside the USA as one end is in Alaska but the other is in Canada. It's 30 something miles over a high pass. The trail follows the route of those who were going to Alaska to strike it rich during the Klondike gold rush. Evidently there are items all along the trail left there by the gold crazed travelers. I've read that it's considered the world's longest museum.

For me and Kathy when we hike this summer will depend on when we can get a camping reservation in Baxter park. It's my understanding that you can't make a reservation more than 4 months out from when you want it.

I finally got around to ordering our new tent today. It's the tent that Kathy wanted because of the long term good performance of our Tarptent Rainshadow and single Rainbow. We're switching from a 3 person to a 2 person tent for section hikes as our dog can no longer do long hikes. It's a little smaller and lighter than what we've been using but I'm sure we'll get used to it. I figured I better get it ordered while it's in stock.

Quote from Astro: “LIHikers, just curious if you have found NYC easier to get as round with less traffic in the pat 9 months? ” We rarely go into NYC. We do drive some highways and bridges that are in the city boroughs though. And sometimes the traffic is lighter and sometimes not. If anything, I'd say it's less predictable now.

Yesterday, Saturday, and last Sunday, Kathy and I took a walk on New York's Long path. It's a trail with one end at New York City and runs north for several hundred miles into the Mohawk Valley someplace. It's the ultimate goal to get it to the Canadian border, but that may take forever to be realized. We're doing it as day hikes since there's no camping allowed on the southern section. The trail runs along cliffs ( Palisades)hundreds of feet above the Hudson River and there are plenty of good v…
