Quote from Rasty: “I really like that it's quick to open. I've had a few times where I thought a animal was just outside of my tent and felt a bit trapped in my sleeping bag trying to find the drawcord. ” It looks like it has a hood drawcord though, right?

Quote from AnotherKevin: “I scolded A.T.Lt. for going up there without ice axe and crampons, but now I see that except for the one spot by the waterfall (which is always sketchy), the ice was a lot less than I expected from the stories I heard this winter. It seems that the little warm spell we had really got rid of a lot of it. I expect the rest is gone by now, except for the shady side of Blackhead. He's hiking in Another Kevin country! I took a walk last Saturday and Sunday. I really haven't had time to upload pics on here or write about it though. Saturday I did a short 5 mile out and back on the AT in Warwick. The same old stretch I always do. I probably have done it a hundred times, but its close to my house and a quick fairly scenic walk from 17A to the Wildcat shelter. The other thread about abandoned gear reminded me of this. When I arrived at the shelter there was a Walmart style tent set up inside the shelter. At first…

  • I've posted this before, this past October I attempted to hike the Santanonnis in the Adirondacks. Plan was to hike in, set up camp and next morning summit the three peeks in question. While hiking in, the temps dropped to the teens, and then it snowed. The next morning, although prepared with all the proper gear and a map and compass I just didn't feel I was capable of going the distance. This mountain range the trails are unmarked herd paths and with the fresh snow the trail just wasn't visibl…

  • adirondackdailyenterprise.com/…al-mistake-.html?nav=5008 I was just recently having a conversation with a friend on some of the topics discussed in this article. Social media has opened hiking, and climbing to a broad audience that sees pictures Of hikes and trips in amazing locations and hikers completing these adventures. Inexperienced people see them and think it's easily capable of doing. And for the most part it is until it goes bad. Then they're not prepared. I've witnessed these hikers ou…

Quote from Ewok11: “After a train load of snow was brought in from Fairbanks for the ceremonial start of the Iditarod, Mother Nature decided to have the last laugh and dumped three inches of fresh powder on top of all of it.
