I believe you. When we camped in Cades Cove for about 3-4 days in 1994, we saw about 8 bears in Cades Cove. Very exciting for our 10 yo daughter.

Walked up to the local pool complex this morning to drop something off to the Aquatics Manager. Staff were working on getting it ready to open this weekend. A duck family, Mama and 7 baby ducklings have taken up residence. Staff had procured new lane lines yesterday and were putting them into the 50 meter. Mama and the babies just hopped over them. Well, one or two of the ducklings had a little trouble and Mom had to give them a boost.
Sorry I didn't take a picture but they were cute. -
On the Arkansas River Trail last week I saw 5 turtles on a log. By the time I was able to snap a picture 3 dove in the water. I believe because the 2 guys in the next picture were approaching them.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

My neighbor and HOA trustee was sprucing up the gate at our neighborhood pool and pointed out a pair of mallards inside the fence. He asked if my German shorthaired pointer would be interested in serving an eviction notice. A few creeping steps later, they were onto more suitable habitat.

I was using the Merlin App to ID bird songs at MacGregor Point Provincial Park. We couldn't see as many birds as we could hear, due to the foliage, but we saw a few. The App is very helpful for finding and identifying the birds.
The App scrolls a sonogram across the screen so you can see the pattern of sound frequencies used to I'd the bird. It kept picking up a Black and White Warbler. I learned the pattern that matched the Warbler so I knew when it was singing, but apparently it has a high pitch that is outside my range of hearing. But my wife could hear it. Maybe this is why she complains innever listen to her? I guess I need a hearing test.
Here is a screenshot of what I was seeing. The song is 8 high frequency rapid chirps.

I had posted these in the Trip Planning thread but they really belong here.
The most direct route home from Franklin was to bypass the Smokies to the north on I-40. But I convinced my wife that it would be worthwhile to leave early and catch the elk herd on the Cherokee side. We saw a few cow elk but not a large number like I was anticipating. 10 minutes later, we saw a vehicle stopped ahead of us and saw the 6x7 bull slowly walking along the side of the highway.
The rain started just before we reached Newfound Gap and got heavier as we descended towards Gatlinburg. Then BOOM! A black bear ambling across the road. We stopped right where it entered the woods and got to watch it shake off like a wet dog. Add in the multiple turkeys we saw and it was the GSMNP Trifecta.Trudgin' along the AT since 2003. I went on a short overnighter last week to Hightop Mountain in the SNP. In the morning while sitting on the throne in the hut's privy (no joke), a squirrel runs by, obviously terrified, and dives into a hole at the bottom of a tree about 15 feet in front of me. I start looking up the tree to see if the squirrel comes out another hole when I saw this magnificent barred owl.If he had not moved his head I probably wouldn't have seen him, he blended in that well. And he never flew. We stared at each other for several minutes. This is the owl that says "Who cooks for you""Dazed and Confused"

I get a lot of interesting (to me) creatures at my house. The moth is a white-lined Sphinx. The snake was behind my oven…peeked his head out from the top of the stove when I was cooking.Lost in the right direction.

we are on our annual fall color weekend up north. Today we took a little stroll at the Thorne Swift nature preserve near Harbor Springs. In the parking lot was an uncharacteristic bold pileated woodpecker eating wild grapes.

I also have shots with my good camera, but it doesn't have a long zoom, but with a digital crop, it may be better. When I get home I will download it off the camera.
