When we reached Lower Shoals Shelter this little critter was in the fire pit.

Holy cow. I've only ever seen one little snake.Lost in the right direction.

We had lots of tarantulas in Texas, they were harmless to humans. It made me sick that many people would douse them with lighter fluid and set them on fire...apparently, they make a screaming noise. Sometimes, kids would tie a string around one and take it for a walk.Lost in the right direction.

Just saw a ground hog in a tree along the highway exit ramp. Does that make it a tree hog?

But how many do you think have seen you?

oh I forgot I did kill a spider about the size of my hand in the Taj Mahal privy at the Darlington Shelter. I poked him with the broom and he leaped off the wall and came running across the floor at me. I hit him so hard with the broom that I bent the metal handle on the broom. For those who have not seen the Taj Mahal privy it is like 8 feet wide x 15 ft with a counterweighted automatic closing door and now a bent broom and huge smashed spider in the middle of the floor."Dazed and Confused"

Yesterday's tick count: 1 attached and 6 crawling on me. I was in the woods and a field for about 2 hours
This morning I found 2 more and all I did was walk in my front yard.Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

We saw a Scarlet Tananger at the visitor center at Hoffmaster St. Park today. These are about the most beautiful bird you will ever see and they are not very common. In fact this is only the second one I have ever seen and oddly enough both were on walks in state parks in Muskeogon MI on Memorial Day Weekend. There was also a wild turkey at the visitor center poking around right underneath the scarlet tananger. And on the way home we also saw a large snapping turtle trying to cross the road. I hope he didn't get run over.

Now that all the cows are having babies, I'm seeing moose everywhere. This guy is Bruce the Moose lives in my neighborhood and can be found dining on his breakfast and/or just taking a quick soak in the pond across from my house most mornings.“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” - T. had a deer in the backyard yesterday which is unusual as we live in the suburbs and rarely have deer. Maybe once or twice in the 15 years we have lived here.
