Eddie Sutton passed away at 84. Over 800 wins, first to take four different schools to NCAA tournament, and a couple to Final Four. On the downside cheating scandal at Kentucky and DUI at Oklahoma State. Another mistake when leaving Arkansas for Kentucky he said he would crawl on his knees all the way to Lexington for that job. Needless to say that did not sit well with Razorback fans. Another man who could definitely couch, but had some other serious flaws.
In college one of my friends went to Pine Bluff to see his UofA beat #1 ranked NC with Jordan (wish I had of gone too).

The Hawks were planning a big good bye celebration for his last game. That obviously didn't get to happen.2,000 miler -

Lost Uncle Cliffy who played on some really good Trail Blazer and Suns teams. Without David Stern's love affair with Jordan (and corresponding marketing $), might have had a few championship rings.

Lost a good one in Tommy Heinsohn. I remember them saying he was a rookie with Bill Russell, so he was the rookie, since no one was going to give Bill Russell the rookie treatment.

NBA draft is next Wednesday, Nov 18.
The potential Spartan draftees are Cassius Winston and Xavier Tillman, Sr.
X is projected to go in the first round but out of the lottery.
Cash is a very accomplished PG and whoever passes on him is making a mistake. Not even sure if he's projected in the 2nd round which will be a damn shame.
Yesterday was National Signing Day and the Spartans class is ranked #6 nationally: Jaden Reed, Max Christie and Pierre Brooks. Jaden is on a team with the #1 player in the country who is a junior and they play tonight at 8:30 on the Duece. I'll be watching. (oh, and the #1 player, Emoni Bates, is committed to the Spartans, but there's no guarantee he will ever play for us as the NBA is going back to letting HSers jump straight into the NBA starting in 2022. Peeps are hoping he reclassifies to 2021 so he gets one year of college ball.)
Last bit of bball news is that Izzo is positive. Heck. (yes, that positive) -
I think one of the most incredible stats about Izzo and MSU is that over his 25 years at MSU all of his recruiting classes (assuming they stayed 4 years) except 1 played in the Final 4.
I havent had much interest in sports since the pandemic hit; college basketball is my favorite so I wonder if that will change. I still don't think college kids should be playing in a pandemic but no one listens to me.
I've had season tickets at KSU for the last 7 years but that streak ends this year. They're not selling them. They're letting the players families attend, and plan on selling about 50 tickets per game. Which is 50 more than Duke is selling. I'm not a Duke fan, but I love the enthusiasm their students have at the games. I wasn't planning on attending any games this year anyway because of the pandemic.
KSU has some promising new players this year and should improve over last years 1-28 record. The first ranking site had them at 345 out 357 D1 schools (which is an improvement over last years final rating).

As I said just a few hours ago, I don't think universities should have their student athletes play basketball this season.
I just learned that Stetson, in the ASun conference with KSU, had a player test positive so they've had to shut down the program for a couple weeks to quarantine. This has resulted in the first scheduled game this season -- Stetson vs Miami -- to be postponed. They'll be more.
But they won't postpone or cancel any basketball games in the Ivy League this season -- they just cancelled the entire season.2,000 miler -

5 NBA records to never be broken. If they had kept track of blocked shots back in the day, the GOAT Bill Russell would probably hold that record also (instead of Mark Eaton).

KC Jones gone at age 88.
A winner on and off the court. Won NCAA, NBA, and Olympic championships as a player, and then more as a coach. Doesn't hurt when you are a teammate of the greatest player of all time. But then coaching ones were by himself.

I knew that the Duke women's basketball team had pulled the plug on their season. But I just learned from USA Today something I didn't know. This was not the schools decision. This was not a decision made by the head coach. This was a decision made by the student-athletes.
Props to these 18-22 year old women who appear to be the only adults in the room.2,000 miler -

I remember when he yelled at female student reporter for asking a question he didn't like.
I think when you make $7 million a year to coach college students, part of the job description should include being respectful to student reporters.

i'm a sports fan so i hate to say this, but it's clear to me that...
sports fans are idiots.
Last night a fan threw a bucket of popcorn on Russell Westbrook as he left the floor after an injury. He was a season ticket holder, security removed him from the arena, season tickets revoked, and permanently banned from the arena.
Also last night, a fan tried to spit on Trae Young. He missed and hit a young lady sitting courtside next to fifty cent. Fan was not a season ticket holder and after identification was banned from the arena for a unspecified time.
Edit to add: Developing story; Trae Young was hit by the spit and has declined to press charges against the assailant.
Edit to add: Wednesday was a rough night in the NBA. 3 separate Utah fans made vulgar and racist comments to Ja Morants parents and were removed from the game and banned.
I need to come up with a stronger word than "idiots".2,000 milerThe post was edited 1 time, last by max.patch ().
