It's true that rabbits will eat your plants but we found out only up to a certain height/age. When we put starters out in the woods we'd lose quite a bit. We found out that they liked the very early plants. So we started growing them in the house under grow-lux bulbs and then transplanting at a much more mature stage and this solved that problem. Then we found out that we couldn't take plants that had been receiving 24 hours of constant light into an environment of half light half dark. We started weaning them of light a little bit at a time till we reached 12/12 and that cured that problem. Then we found out we couldn't take plants from an ideal wind-less environment into a windy one. we found that made the stalks weak and they couldn't all of the sudden withstand the wind and broke in half. we started running fans on them to strengthen the stalks and that cured that problem. Then we started having problems with other growers and thief's stealing our plants. We used various methods to cure those problems.
Grow sites and stills give surveyors the heebie jeebies.
I was surveying a site above Dalton, GA and ran across a HUMONGOUS grow site on some NF land. Damn near 40 acres. Too bad it was June.
I've learned to ask ahead of time if there's any areas of the property I need to steer clear of. This tactic has been well received by a few of my clients. If your Doctor is a tree, you're on acid. -

You would do just as well in Alabama with that attitude. You may even get a job guarding at night. Most pay $100 cash for 8 hours. No direct confrontation, just a phone call.

The stupidity of some Australian hikers still amazes me.
My first aid training was held in a group of buildings 50 metres off the Bibbulmun Track about 15 miles from the start. There is a hut between the start and there and another about 1 or 2 mile beyond where we were.
While we were having a break a prospective thru hiker came through. I jogged over and chatted to him for a while as we walked. He had an enormous pack and a day pack on the front as well. Water bottles and a couple of other bits and pieces hung off the outside.
I said he looked to be carrying a lot of weight. He said he had a 2lb tent and a light air pad and very few clothes and didn't know what else he could leave behind. He admitted his minus 5 celsius bag (synthetic) was heavy but I didn't criticise as down is pricey. I pointed out he had a bit of water. He said he had 8 litres (about 17 or 18 lbs). I asked why as the hut just up the trail had rainwater tanks. He replied that the tap water he had just filled up with "tasted better". I wished him well and let him go on his way. For what it's worth most people find the rainwater tanks taste better than tap water. If (big if), he continues, Violet will meet him going the other way about 2 or so weeks into her hike.
No I didn't offer a pack shakedown. He would have to have been carrying well in excess of 70lbs I would say. Minimum temperatures he is likely to encounter would be 55 during daylight and 45 overnight. Maximums will be up to 100 but mostly around high 80's for the next 2 or 3 weeks and then progressively cooler. Yes he would have had a decent amount of food but really, 8 litres of water 1 mile from a water tank? -

Well, obviously blocking users does not help. As a last ditch effort, I attempted to filter out some of the verbal diarrhea this way. It is obvious that I cannot shut my mouth to the boorish and childish usage of the f word. As such, I would like someone to delete my account. I looked into it and cannot find a way to do it on my own. I love this community. It has been a tremendous asset to me. I have learned so much. Thank you. I will be back in about a month. If my account is still active at that point, I will be reducing every post to dots and deleting everything I can. I would rather not have that access. Enjoy the cesspool. I don't see the attraction or the need for it. I do not see how it adds to anything. However, there is an answer. I don't have to be part of it. After it is read, feel free to delete this post too. I don't see how it can have any lasting edification.
Wolf... you have so much to offer. I have learned much from you. I believe you have a good heart. you certainly have a common sense approach to hiking. You have changed my outlook on many things. You have convinced me of much. Thank you. You just need to not be such a pig with you language... in my parting opinion.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -
