I guess I'll be the first one to stand up and identify themselves as a clueless weekender.
It all started years ago. My wife and I started off by doing day hikes here on Long Island. After a while we "graduated" to doing day hikes in Harriman State Park and northern NJ. While we knew about the AT, we used it as just another trail to make loops in Harriman. Then one year we went to visit friends who lived in Charles Town, WV and they took us to Harper's Ferry to visit the historic village. I saw a white blaze and commented to my wife "we could walk home from here", meaning that we could walk back to NY. Well, the following summer our son was dropping us off in Harper's Ferry and as I sat on a curb watching him drive away I was both excited and nervous. Since then my wife and I have been working our way north on the AT in short sections. In 2012 we crossed the Maine border and have covered ground to the Carlo Col shelter, just inside Maine. Since Kathy and I don't have the same days off from work anymore we rarely get out. But whenever we can, we like to get out for a 1 or 2 nighter, usually on a weekend. Hence, the title of clueless weekender. But, I'm really not clueless anymore, so maybe I've typed this all in vain
