Our school believes in truth in advertising, so we call it Winter Break. We don't ever go anywhere. It's going to snow a few days this week.

The past 4 days, the trees have started budding and the Dogwoods are blooming. It’s great to see things becoming green.

It’s supposed to snow and be 14* Saturday night. I feel for the thru hikers.

After checking the weekend weather here, and doing a double take, I checked Springer Mountain for those thrus starting tomorrow. They'll walk thru 1-2 inches of new snow, a 30% chance of more, and will sleep thru 13 degree weather. Those middle of night bathroom breaks will be treated to a wind chill of -1. Sunday is much better and it sure would a smart idea to grab a hotel room for Saturday and start a day later.

Park officials said the decision was made following a weather forecast that could mean up to seven inches at high elevations in the park on April 8.

I started the last weekend in April and still had snow flurries (didn't stick) one day in the GSMNP.

It's not even summer yet, but the daily highs over the next 10 days range from 92 to 99 with an average of 95.

Right now it's 91 and feels like 100.

It could be worse, I just checked Tucson.

ETA: Yesterdays high tied the highest temperature reached in all of 2021 which wasn't reached until July 28.

Saturday night, I was sitting around a roaring campfire in Durbin, WV and wearing a jacket as the temperatures dropped into the 50's. Glorious!

Yesterday and today? Not so much. Looking at high 90's in Cincy with oppressive humidity. At least the lawn is mowed now.

Sleeping along the banks of the East Fork of the Greenbrier River. Durbin... it ain't urban.

103* with heat index of 114* now. Highs of 100* to 100* plus most of the week.
Had to start getting up by 6am to get my walks in. Started too late Tuesday but still did 5 miles (and must not have drunk enough) and by end of the day had heat exhaustion and had to take Wednesday off. Not ignoring the alarm anymore.

North Texas is burning up. It looks like late August and not late July. It's been 40+ days with no rain and 20+ days 100 or more.

I have some Dutch friends staying with me while they wait for their campervan to arrive in the port of Baltimore. They left a steamy Europe for a bunch of perfect weather days in Cincy. Highs in the low 80's and low humidity. Yowsah!

Heading into August and my lawn is mostly green. My daughter from Austin was on a business trip in Kansas City and stared outside during a rain storm - something she hasn't seen for a month.
