Growing up in South Florida I used to enjoy looking out between the cracks in the plywood on the windows at the hurricanes. But I sure would not want to be camping out in one.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Another 90+ day here. However feels cooler after the string of 100+ days.
As hot and dry conditions persist, various communities are banning aerial fireworks due to the threat of fire. One such community dealt with an average of thirty-seven 911 calls per hour during the 4th of July barrage. The upcoming Pioneer Day celebrations (held in higher esteem by Utahns than the 4th) promise another display of irresponsible firework explosions.

This was a week ago, but we were out of town last weekend. We came home to find a thunderstorm went through with 80 mph winds. We had a 50 ft willow tree blow over and an apple tree break off at the trunk. I cut the apple tree off to leave the one and only remaining twig. Maybe it will come back. Have called a half dozen tree service companies to come take care of the willow but they are still too busy to call back. Lots of trees down all over town.

What are all ya'll doing in the heat? Staying inside?
I'm still riding my bike for an hour or so everyday but at a slower speed and I'm trying to avoid the uphills. No way am I going for a hike in this crap. This heat wave sucks- please go away heat wave."Dazed and Confused"

Crazy microburst hit at 3am, 80mph winds, straight down. More than 50 trees down blocking roads in town. We got power back at 9am, but across the street, nothing and no good outlook.
Chainsawed a tree out of neighbor's yard, 80 year old Pin Oak..damn thing was so dense I thought I saw sparks.... Next door neighbor had giant limb tear off 80 foot oak tree and crash through his roof. Giant limb. like...35 feet long...going to need a front loader with a claw for that mess....
Muni finally came and cleared the three streets blocked in my sub just now.
This is actually normal activity for us every 5 years, or so. We are so freaking amazed that we didn't lose any giant trees or have them suffer any apparent damage. Plenty of smaller stuff got stripped off and hit the roof like hail for 5 minutes, so...hello Flo, care to write a big check?
It is so bad here that your homeowner's insurance is around $2500/yr for every 250k value. That's with a 1k deductible....my ex has had two completely new roofs with gutters and siding within the last 5 years. That's three roofs on a 15 year old home!!!!
The good news is it won't hit 108 here today like it did yesterday. The bad news is that it was 40 percent humidity yesterday. It's 100 percent today, so 95 is literally unbearable... -

One of the first responders I know was involved in the San Antonio incident whereby folks were found locked inside a trailer on a WalMart parking lot. Body count is at nine with several critical. He said the trailer interior probably hit 150+.
In other news, a nearby sheriff department recently lost a K9 when an officer left the dog inside a patrol truck while he went to 4th festivities with family. He found the dog dead when he returned to the vehicle to start his shift. The temp hit 106* that day.

Finally got about a 30 minute rain last night. My yard is turning a nice shade of brown. The only thing that likes this heat are my Crepe Myrtles and that darn wire grass."Dazed and Confused"

Temps in the high 90s with days in the low 100s, but it's a 'dry heat'.
Rain has fallen all around with the closest shower just a few.blocks away but not a drop on the lawn.

Had a lightning strike next to my house today. My TV is fried, DVD player fried, my desktop computer fried, several LED lightbulbs fried, and my FIOS Network fried. Maybe more, I have not checked everything yet.
The FIOS guy hopefully will be here to get the Internet back up tomorrow. Right now I'm sitting in my car down the street Yogiing someone's open wireless internet so I can share all this with you....
