The weather is PERFECT !
Dark but perfect.
There's a good chance of rain, ranging from 40 to 60 percent, during the 2 days well be doing an overnighter.
Oh, we've decided on Harrimman State Park to minimize driving time and maximize hiking time.
For those of you who know the park our loose and flexible plan is to start in the town of Tuxedo, hike northwest to the Tom Jones shelter where we'll have lunch and then hike south to the Dutch Doctor shelter for diner. Considering how early it gets dark we may spend the night in that area or continue on and stealth camp someplace else. We'll see. -

19 degrees and lightly snowing.
I read an interesting weather factoid a few days ago. This is the first winter of the past three that has remained true to average with temps. Last year and the year before there had been well over 200 hours each of above freezing temps between November 16th and now. This year there have only been seven hours above freezing and they were all on December 7th. We're still below 50% of the average snow total but for once, what we have is sticking around instead of being in a constant freeze and thaw cycle.
We're up by approximately three and a half minutes of sunlight since the solstice. By this time next month, we will have gained a full two hours of daylight.“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” - T. S. Eliot -

Supposed to rain all day in the 40s, so knocked out a couple of miles when it was just misting this morning.
Took advantage of sunshine yesterday and led the sons in an attack on all of the leaves in the gutters and yard. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Sunny and 55 degrees in Southern Connecticut today. Apparently Jan 1st marked the first day of spring.Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

I really appreciate the views, keep em comin' as long as you like.
there is a landscape artist I like named Kevin McPherson, he has a book he wrote called "reflections on the pond" where he painted a picture in the same spot at his home each day For a year...here are some photos. They aren't refined art, more a color study of light, atmosphere, and of coarse color. I like the unfinished look, and when you view squint a bit and watch it come alive.

Not understanding the lack of physics awareness for local drivers. Over 150 motor accidents today, three of which involved motorists hitting three parked police vehicles while officers cleared accidents.

I heard of that method to get worms using a car battery. My grandfather said it was very dangerous so I never did it. When i read the Darwin. Award books I saw that several people had died using a car battery to fish with.--
