Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

carried, of course, in a plastic jim beam bottle.

Knob Creek - yeah, that is good stuff. And that's coming from someone who isn't inordinately fond of bourbon. (I got a nice bottle of a 16-year-old Isle of Jura as an anniversary present. I'm sure that the bourbon drinkers will consider that heresy.)

I bought some last week to try. I may try it tonight.
I don't know a lot about whiskey or bourbon but I know I like to put it in the freezer and sip it cold. Is this okay?Lost in the right direction. -

Right now there is a MaCallan 10 in my pantry and usually there is a bottle of Jack for mixed drinks. Oddly, I was watching something on the Esquire channel earlier. I can't remember the name of the show but it's about these two guys who go around to the "best bars" in America. They were in Portland and went to a place called The Whiskey Library. Anyone ever been there?“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” - T. S. Eliot

Since this thread is in the Coffee Talk category does that mean it's okay to put whisky in my coffee? Wait...I'll have to add the e and make it "whiskey" if I'm adding it to coffee. Irish or bourbon for that mix.
Lagavulin 16 for me, although there are a number of others I'm fond of as well. I love that heavy peaty/smoke smell from the Lagavulin and other Islays though.Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less. - Robert E. Lee -

You got that right. That's the way to do it, get it cold and sip on it straight!"Dazed and Confused"

I have some 1792 Ridgemont Reserve right now for bourbon.

And for rum, you should try this if you get a chance:

I've been taste testing.
Makers Mark... I didn't like this at all. Blech.
Jack Daniel's single barrel... It's nice and I will definitely drink this again. If you haven't been to Lynchburg and toured the distillery, you should. Don't miss eating at Miss Bobo's.
Woodford Reserve... I loved it. Yum! So far the best of the three. The bottle didn't last very long :).
Knob Creek... Next on the list...stay tuned.Lost in the right direction. -

I'll wager you won't like Knob Creek, I was very disappointed. It's not cheap but Bernsheim (sp?) is really good, my maintenance supervisor gave me a bottle as a going away gift when I left the company, when I had finished it I went to get another bottle but decided I couldn't afford it, came to the conclusion my maintenance supervisor was over paid.I may grow old but I'll never grow up. -
I will suggest you try Bulleit next. Two years ago I was in Knoxville for 5 weeks at the children's hospital. Which is one block from all the college bars. It was during the summer so they were slow. One of the bartenders turned me on to Bulleit and I've been drinking it ever since.

For me, Knob Creek is a little better than Makers Mark. I don't know the right words to describe it but maybe it's a little too dry (?).Lost in the right direction.

Ouch... I LOOOOOOVE Makers Mark...but I am not picky.(ask the wife).. pass the bottle...

I have never heard of Bulliet - what's it like? what proof?
Smooth ... Not sure of proof... -
my main drink for years was makers mark; i switched to knob creek a few years ago. makers mark and bulleit are both 90 proof, while knob creek is hiker friendly at 100 proof. major difference between makers mark and bulleit is rye -- makers mark has none while bulleit has a very high percentage at 28%.
i also get back to my irish roots and like bushmills on the trail as it is very smooth.
tastes change over the years -- i liked southern comfort in my 20s and had some for the first time in decades a few years back. ack - i couldn't get it down. tasted like medicine.
take my opinions with a large grain of salt. my whiskey drinking is pretty much limited to when i hike. 2 drinks at most. i'm a lightweight.2,000 milerThe post was edited 1 time, last by max.patch ().

I've been in pubs where ordering Bushmill's won't get you a shot, but just might get you shot. I order Powers or Jameson's in those, unless I'm really feeling flush, in which case I might spring for Redbreast.I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -

Because they're Protestants, from County Antrim. (The pub I'm thinking of was rather a Provisional IRA hangout.)I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -

I have to agree. It has a hint of sweetness and a smooth finish. Definitely my favorite so far.Lost in the right direction. -
Had some Old Pulteney 21 last week, brought to a party by a British friend. Wow. Very, very nice whisky. I'm fortunate in my choice of friends.I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here.

I love whiskey. Fine american bourbon. Older the better. I actually drank one KY toen out of Wild Turkey one year. Yeap...every bar in town due to a ice storm. At one point in a bar I loked at a co worker & said it was Makers Mark. A few drinks later it went seriously downhill. I asked what the hell he was feeding me. He was surprised I recoganized his digression in drinks by brand.

I find it interesting that whisky, wine and beer all have alcohol but each makes me feel differently.I may grow old but I'll never grow up. -
