I do not ride a bike, but did as a teenager. I think the last time I rode a bike was when I wrecked mine in the summer of 1978. There was a very long steep hill near my home. I had just installed a speedometer on my bike. I was curious how fast it would register. I had it dancing between 40 and 45 when the chain came off. It wrapped up in the back tire. I could not keep the bike upright. I slid on my side for what seemed like forever. I was wearing blue jeans and a jean jacket. The tar burned through both. After I stopped, I hurled the bike into some alders next to the road. It lodged in them higher than I could reach. Bleeding from my left arm, left leg, and head, I made my way home. After my mother bandaged me up, she made me go retrieve my bike. I climbed the alders and threw it on the dump nearby instead of taking it home. Back then, the dumps were a bonfire. I was satisfied to burn my bike.
Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball.
