Rasty, surprised you are that old. What did you go with your older brother or your babysitter? The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

I was 17 and went with my older brother and my new girlfriend at the time. We're still together.Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

Hey Andy,
I know we haven't talked in a while. At the moment I'm sitting here a half hour away from my my 33rd birthday, six weeks away from the birth of my first child, and far too long past the realization that my love of local finely made craft beers is often a double edged sword. It's an interesting time, I'm not sure that anxiety is the right word. To me anxiety has always meant that twisting knot of acid from my gut reflexing into my mouth. The sort of thing that creeps in from making choices in my daily life, that prevented me from going big into my finance career and at the same time stopped me from bailing out and hiking the trail when I had the (very real) chance.
I have no idea what's ahead, but the more I sit here the more I tend to think it's a game. We are a fortunate folk, those that were born into this lifetime. I am thankful that my parents and grandparents are still alive and that they had the wisdom to remember and retell the family history. I am one of the few Americans who can trace (at least some sides of) their family lineage back to the 1640's with the founding of New Haven and Stamford colonies in Connecticut. I grew up knowing the hard times that my family felt and what they truly dealt with for better and mostly for worse as they survived the past centuries that got me here today.
I have a sincere appreciation that I'm not a person, (certainly) not a businessman, not a hiker, but a link in this chain of lineage that I'm now a part of. Who knows what will come of me or anyone else in the future, all I know is that my knees work so far and I do the daily work to keep them that way. I will soon have a child who will be raised with his free time spend safely under tree canopy, and no matter what happens in this world my children will understand that they are a part of nature, not the conquerors of it.
I hopefully will have a nice birthday
Nothing was missed yet.
Good days to come.

elf,
when you listen to your heart, you will never make a "bad" decision.you don't "give up"anything, rather you move your life in the right direction.
the gift of becoming a parent is just that, the opportunity to mold your own flesh and blood through words and actions, taking years to attempt to impart all of the knowledge of life that you've gathered(they won't listen anyway), and then to let go, to allow them to follow their own hearts..having children is a blessing like no other.
happy birthday dave.
and many more.
you're doing it right.its all good -
If you weren't at least a little scared at being one of the grown-ups - married, a baby on the way, as settled as a hiker ever gets - with long term commitments, you'd be approaching those commitments irresponsibly. But it sounds as if you're doing fine!
If you make sure that the kid grows up with interesting stories to tell a therapist, you're doing it right.
Happy birthday!I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -
Wait a second, did I really manage to write a coherent post last night?Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
