Last weekend Kathy and I got out to the AT in CT.
We parked at the Mohawk Trail parking on route 4, or is it 7 ? Then we hiked south to the Stewart Hollow shelter where we step up our tent. We shared the area with 4 guys, in their 40s, on their first ever backpacking trip. We heard a lot about sore knees and shoulders and that they were having a good time despite their aches and pains. In the morning they headed out before us and had a longer day planned. We finally set off around 9 and Kathy had a particular camp site in mind that she wanted to show me called Ceasar's Brook camp site. She stayed there 4 years ago when she hiked the AT across CT. Nice area with a very unique privy. It was a toilet seat mounted on top of a wooden box which was secured over a very deep hole in the ground. No walls, no roof, so not any privacy at all except that it's a good walk from the tenting spots. It was no rush in the morning again as we only had 3 to 4 miles back to the car. Once we were on the Mohawk Trail headed toward the car we stopped on some rocks and took one last break to soak up some sun and enjoy the peace and quiet of the outdoors. Then it was all down hill to the car. So it was 1/2 a day Friday, all day Saturday, and 1/2 a day Sunday.
