One of the greatest books on mountaineering I've ever read was "The Mountains of my Life", by Walter Bonatti. Bonatti was to the climbing world then what Alex Honnold is to climbing today, mastering solo routes in the Alps of Europe.
He was also part of the first Italian expedition to climb K2, second only to Everest in height, and much a much tougher climb.
It was a controversial expedition and Bonatti was a controversial figure.
K2:The Italian Mountain is streaming free on Amazon Prime and imdb.
I highly recommend it.
