    • Cold Springs Shelter - NC

This was on FB; I thought it was funny so I've copied the pictures for those that haven't seen it.

      Cold Springs Shelter:

Early hiker carved his name in the shelter wall:

Cut and paste from the USFS website:

"Cold Springs Shelter, located 1.3 miles north of Burningtown Gap, serves as a rest area for hikers of the AT. The shelter was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930s using chestnut tree logs. Cold Springs Shelter is a listed national historic site."

The shelter was renovated (rather than replaced) becasue of it's historical significance about 10 years ago. But I don't think it's historical significance is becasue George Washington slept there one night back in 1776. :)
