      What3Words is not all that new, but I haven't seen it mentioned on any hiking pages. It divides the whole planet into 3x3 meter squares and assigns each a three word phrase. This makes it easy to identify and communicate your exact location. It is being used by SAR, for example. The words are assigned by a mathematical algorithm so they don't mean anything. For example,

      My last Where Am I Now post was at wept.compacts.watery

      The AT goes from turntable.heist.fishery to relevance.hobby.fluid

      But long.green.tunnel is in Greenwood IN

      And hike.approach.trail is in Shangdong China

      long.section.hike is also in China.
