Makes me glad my children are grown now. Glad the dads were able to protect them.
Although I do feel for dad who needs rabies shots due to the coyote bites. But still better than the alternative. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Maybe we were better off when we didn't know about all the dangerous stuff out there.

The kind of wildlife attacks that are a good thing, givin that it's attacking an invasive species. A little on the graphic side...

There's a myth that mama black bears will protect their cubs, by viscously attacking humans, but they are not exactly the greatest protectors, probably because black bear cubs are hardwired to run up a tree when there's any hint of threat. I actually had this happen to me in SNP a few years ago, when I walked up on a bear and her cubs and was between the mama and her cub and the cub immediately ran up the closest tree and the mother ran up another tree she was near.
Here's an organization that talks about that myth bear.org/myth-mother-black-bears-are-likely-to-attack/
However, Black bears, like any other animal, can be habituated to humans, to the point of losing all fear and then they become dangerous. The below video shows just how this happens, notice the tag on the mama bear's ear. These bears normally would never get so close to humans. Sad.

On my thru I met a temporary employee (one of several) who had just shot and killed a wild hog in the GSMNP. (That was the job he was hired to do.) He was happy becasue he thot this would give him an advantage over the other temps when their contract was up and some of them would be offered long term positions.2,000 miler

In the SNP I had triplet cubs run by me and I looked up and momma was just down the trail. The cubs shot up a tree near her and she started huffing and slapping the ground. I clapped my hands and yelled but she wouldn't move and was looking pretty pissed. I walked backwards a little bit and then did a right turn and bushwhacked over to the parkway and road walked a ways before bushwhacking back to the trail."Dazed and Confused"

This is the only bear that was ever aggressive towards me. She lunged onto the trail facing me and stood her ground. You can still see some of the dust in the air from her jump.
Then I heard a sound by my ear in the tree next to me and learned the reason for this unusual behavior. A cub was climbing the tree right beside me.
I backed up a safe distance while keeping an eye on her. After a while she went into the bushes and howled and howled until the cub came down, then they both ran off together.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

We were on our walk today at MacGregor Point Provincial Park today. I was using my phone to ID bird songs with the Merlin App when a Black Capped Chickadee landed on my phone. Scared the crap out of me. The bird and I both survived.
