I saw my first Total Solar Eclipse when I was very little, in Anchorage Alaska. I remember it. And Alaska has strange summers and deep winters (sun only dipping below the horizon in June/July and only a few hours of dusk followed by darkness in winter), but the eclipse was different. Darkness at mid day, birds got quiet, crickets and other things all got quiet.
We have a 10 pack of eclipse glasses to hand out to family. DFW is in totality but the northern edge of it. However wife has some old college friends who we occasionally visit. Their country place is right under the totality, so almost 5 minutes of totality. They have invited down the "gang" to hang out. That's our plan, unless it is raining.
I hope we can view it, then I'll have 2 totals in my lifetime.
