    • When I came to the first place I thought I needed to cross the water I could not find any white blazes, so I checked Guthook and sure enough I had missed a switchback coming down. But I did like the picture I got there.

After walking a mile or so along the water I got a 3 for 1 crossing with the tree with the blaze between the first two. I would four more to do later in the day.

    • There were a few interesting things like rock steps (but watch out for the slippery green stuff, especially when wet. A decorated Christmas tree. And or course lots of waterfalls and crossings.

    • When I decided to not push on to Cedar Creek, I knew I would be dry camping at Rosetta so I stopped at Lick Creek and ate dinner there. Interesting thing is Guthook has it as a questionable water source. For the AT in the summer that means you might be lucky to find something. As you can see there was plenty here.

When I got to Rosetta there was supposed to be a campground, but it looked the hunters had taken it over with an old RV trailer, tarps, and even a large bow-n-arrow target. I decided to find another place across the road for my tent. The last thing I wanted to do was cause any conflict with a bunch of people drunk and heavily armed on a Saturday night. 8o

    • Sunday morning I was up and walking the CR (County Road) before dawn for what I expected to be around12 miles. Eventually I saw this interesting dedication sign, and after seeing a cabin for rent, saw the one below which was a "little" beyond that point. ;)

I walked around 5 miles to the town of Rosetta, which was just a cemetery at this point. I waved as you always do in the South as a pickup truck passed by me. But then not too far farther up they had stopped. They were two "old" hunters and the driver said you look as old as us do you want a ride. While I was happy to keep walking on the low traffic CR, I was even happier when I found out he was going down the winding narrow shoulder state highway (AR 21) after that where my car was.

The driver did most of the talking as his friend was dying of cancer and was very quiet. He was taking him out hunting with him to get him out of the house and hopefully shoot a deer to get some meat for him. It was a win-win as he enjoyed talking and I didn't have to walk on the state highway. I also got home a lot earlier which my wife liked so I could help my son carry home some large living room chairs she bought at an estate sale. :)

Sorry to irk you, and personally don't get that much out of it, but at least the first time I found it interesting.

    • This coming weekend I was planning a 4 day trip on OHT, but my wife's father passed away so instead I will be renting a van and carrying my 3 son's and their respective wifes (2) and girfriend up to IN (my wife left today, but all the boys have jobs so have to minimize the time gone).

Hopefully catch good weather during January holiday (MLK/REL) weekend.

    • Last Saturday hiked the 9.5 miles from Ft. Douglas back to Rosetta trailhead. Gives 103.8 miles total now. We have had lots of rain, so lots of wet crossings. Avoided the first one at Haws Creek Fall Campground when a pickup truck stopped to ask me something, and then let me ride across on his tailgate. Later back in the woods It was back to putting on Vivobarefeet each time.

    • Finally used my Tiger Wall UL1 for the first time in field. With no rain and temps down to the 40s that night I went with only 3 of the 6 stakes. With my arthritis the side door is nice and there is more overhead room than in my Flycreek UL1. Have to arrange things a liitle different inside, but I am sure I will get used to it.
Walked 6 miles in County/Forrest Sevice Road Sunday morning, but soon after on US 123 caught a ride back to my car.

    • 8/14/21 9.6m Fort Douglas to Hurricane Creek East Crossing
After crossing the Big Piney Bridge I went into the woods and quickly met a runner and her dog coming out. She said the trail was gnarly. At first I thought she mean it was overgrown. But I soon learned it was much worse than that. There were spider webs everywhere. I tried knocking them down with my poles, and they ended up covered by them. Wore my head net just so I wouldn't webs all over my face. Sometimes the spider were in them and sometimes what they had capture were also. Sandspurs were also all over my socks.

Now on the upside the Hurricane Creek was not too high to pass on the West side. Sometimes you need to take the bypass due to this. I did not find where the Natural Bridge was, but didn't to waste time going back.

The first picture is of the Blue Blaze for the highwater bypass. The last picture is the east crossing where I gather water for supper and camped that night.

    • Well it looks like the pictures got reordered. You can see a lot bugs in the water at the west crossing. The east crossing that I camped at is the small brown rocks. The blue blaze has HWB for High Water Bypass. I ended up taking the path on the way back out the next morning.
