We've never cooked on the trail.
We only boil water and use it for one of the many things you can make ready with it.
One Thanksgiving we had the entire feast via freezer bag cooking in Harriman State Park.
One of these days I want to try and make pancakes.
I'm keeping my eyes open for a small, flat pan with the edges turned up.
We use a K-Mart grease pot for boiling water, I've thought maybe I'll get another one of those and cut the sides down until it's in the neighborhood of 3/8 of an inch high. Just enough to keep the pancake batter from running off.
the cookset for my svea 123 has a lid like that. never cooked in it. but i would put it on upside down (it was made to fit either way) and boil water in it at the same time while i was boiling water and cooking in the pot.Drybones wrote:

I prefer using the dishwasher at home (or better yet one my children doing it ).meat wrote:
I love doin' dishes with copious amounts of rinse water, though I've gotten better. Dishes on the trail sucks! Freezer baggin' is easy.
huh? You're mis-taken, I've never gone stoveless in my life, I needs vitals, not bird food.Wise Old Owl wrote:
Rocket Socks and I went stove less that trip a few years back on Delaware Water Gap - for me hard boiled eggs, Jerky and Bagels. I tried an Alcohol stove one night behind a rock and foil, and the wind rendered it useless. Best to have a stoveless backup when on the trail.

I found that scout mess kit that was hiding down my basement. Now all I have to do is open it up and check on the condition of the pieces to see if it's still useable.JimBlue wrote:
