Thanks Mountain Mike. I'm sure missing the A.T. in my daily life these days. Life is good...great actually...I love both of my jobs, I've got a new guy in my life whom I really like, and I'm still dappling in some writing. But damn I miss the trail.

If I understood the news correctly the two teens were probably hikers since the fire started on 'Chimney Tops Trail.' I would like to think that this was a fire that got away from them rather than it was a purposeful act. If purposely set they should be looking at murder charges. So many lives ruined here.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

the wildfires were out in georgia. until last nite. last nite a car on the richard b russell highway (the road that tesnatee gap and hogen gap trailheads are on) somehow managed to run off the road and crash in the woods. the car caught on fire, which then caused the woods to catch on fire. last nite the highway was closed. and a couple hours ago the GATC announced that the AT section from neels gap to tesnatee gap is closed due to this fire.2,000 miler

I didn't want them charged with murder but some accountability is warranted.Lost in the right direction. -

It looks like it proved impossible to prove that the fires started by these boys were directly tied to the fires that caused the deaths. Dropping that case seems appropriate. Still, I hope that the Feds take up the case of arson against these boys for starting the Chimney Top fire, that seems appropriate.

Back on subject. The Brian Head fire in Utah is now about 60% contained however over 60K acres burned. No fatalities reported but a critical watershed is affected. We were deterred from a camping-hiking trip planned in the area. Trail maintainers reported years of rebuilding trails ahead.
