I recently dug up one of my most cherished childhood posessions. The Golden Guide to Camping and Camp Craft. It was given to me thirty years ago when I was first introduced to camping. I'm not sure if I was old enough to read when it was first given to me, fortunately it was wonderfully illustrated.
Inside it showed all of the best camping advice from 1959; selection, use and care of knives and axes, how to sew and waterproof your own canvas tents, how to make various bedrolls and types of fires. It went over fishing, animal snares, campfire cooking, trenching tents for rain and all other essential camping skills. If I followed its advice today I'd probably be chased off trail by an angry mob of Ti- pitchfork carrying LNT blowhards
So what camping equipment and resources do you all have from days past?

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
