I just an alert on my phone...Savananah Bananas are on YouTube Live tonight.
Playing the Party Animals on the road in Columbus, GA.
Pregame started at 6 eastern; first pitch at 7. (What are they going to talk about for an hour?) The line to get in the stadium is unbelievable.

They got beat so it's not totally like the Washington Generals playing the Harlem Globetrotters.
They are now 8-3 on their World Tour.
Family entertainment; we took the boys to see the Globetrotters every year for a while, I sure they would have enjoyed this also.
The guy on stilts (9' 11") came on in relief.
I gotta say...I enjoyed the rule that prohibits the batter from stepping out of the box. If you do it it's a called strike -- so no one did it Next move is yours, Manfred.
They've sold out 150+ consecutive games at home so they've figured out their niche. All games on the World Tour have also been sell outs.2,000 miler -

Triple play the hard way.
<snip>
In what ended up being a 4-1 loss, Virginia turned a terrific double play with a step-on-home-throw-to-first move. But first baseman Devin Ortiz thought it was out No. 3, so he tossed the ball toward the mound and began to walk off the field.
He realized there were only two outs and a runner at third was coming home. So Ortiz ran, grabbed the ball and threw out Sky Duff at home for a very unconventional triple play.

I always like the rare unassisted triple play, usually a line drive up the middle to the SS during a double steal attempt.

Miss 27 calls in one game!
I guess you could say he was consistent with his inconsistency.

Jake Peavy won a gold glove in 2012 so of course he used his actual gold glove when pitching for the Bananas (who comes up with this stuff?)
My first reaction was they just spray painted a regular glove gold. But...google tells me a MLB gold glove is "made from gold lamé-tanned leather and affixed to a walnut base". And every news source is reporting this as factual. So it's possible...true or not ya gotta love the creativity. If this is not legit they fooled a lot of reputable news sources (I got an alert from CBS Sports about this.)
<snip>
A special moment in America's Oldest Ballpark, Rickwood Field on Saturday night was Cy Young Award Winner, Jake Peavy, pitching with his Gold Glove.

I'd feel safe -- Covid is still out there -- catching an A's game.
After "attracting" 3,748 on Tuesday, they beat that last night with 2,703.
Reminds me of a Braves game in the 70's on a hot August night where the attendance was 500 something. The Braves had 4 years in the 70's where average attendance was less than 10,000 per game. The worst was 1975 was when the average attentance was 6,683. Surprisingly, this was only 23 out of 24 MLB teams -- the Giants averaged 6,456.

The Reds owner traded a bunch of good players prior to opening day for 'good prospects'. The fans expressed their displeasure in various public forums. The owner made the following comments to the media and fans on the day of the home opener:
"Shut up and like it! Where else are you going to go to see a game? Cleveland? You'll cheer for the Reds and buy tickets no matter what I do."
Home game attendance is setting records for all the wrong reasons. So I'd feel safe going to the Great American Ballpark without a mask.Trudgin' along the AT since 2003. Completed Sections: Springer Mountain to Winding Stair Gap NC, Fontana Dam to Clingmans Dome, and Max Patch NC to Gorham NH

The conference suspended the batter 2 games for taunting. They suspended the pitcher 4 games for the attack; but the college has already kicked him off the team. The conference also suspended a bunch of players 2 games for leaving the dugout and coming onto the field after the attack.2,000 miler

Shout to Miguel Cabrera.
Only the seventh person to join the 3000/500 club. There hasn't been a lot to feel good about in Detroit sports during the Miguel era. Even more remarkable is how universally liked and respected he is.
However, when I looked at the other club members, something seemed wrong, so I looked up the stats. I propose that the rules for entry into this club should be expanded and that equal accolades also be applied to all players who got more than 500 HR AND a .340 batting average AND spent 6 seasons in active combat duty in the military AND "only" got 2600 hits.

If you serve in one war you'd think you'd get a pass to not serve in the next one. Or at least get put at the end of the line.
If my memory is still working, Cabera's mistress wasn't thrilled with him when he wouldn't leave his wife for her and the 2 kids they had together. Ugly lawsuit at the time.2,000 miler -

One of these days Manfred is going to have to something -- anything -- about Trevor Bauer.
My guess without following this thing is that the worst he'll do is kick the can down the road, suspend him and give him credit for time served.
That'll then become the Dodgers problem to figure out what to do. Huge contract and (at least when this story broke long ago) none of the players on the team want him back.2,000 miler -

If enough of that starts happening during games then I just might start tuning in.
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -
Obviously Manfred is a member of the cafe! We talk about it -- and Manfred reacts.
Bauer suspended 2 years without pay. No credit for time served.
And Manfred gave the Dodgers a huge favor -- when his suspension is over (assuming appeals are unsuccesful) his contract with the Dodgers will be over. So they don't have to worry about what to do with him.2,000 miler -

"In the strongest possible terms, I deny committing any violation of the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy," Bauer said in a statement released by his representatives. "I am appealing this action and expect to prevail. As we have throughout this process, my representatives and I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings."

If you want to watch the Braves you turn on Bally Sports. Done. Easy.
But this weekend Fridays game was on Apple TV. And Sundays game is on Peacock premium - $5 monthly fee and at the horrible start time of 11:30 to give them no competition for eyeballs. MLB gives them 1.5 hrs or 2 hrs (don't remember) before any other game can start.
Chris Maddog Russo talked about this a few weeks ago about how stupid MLB is for doing it. He said if he goes to watch the Yankees -- and they're not where they supposed to be on TV -- screw it he's not going to search for em. Gotta say I agree2,000 milerThe post was edited 2 times, last by max.patch ().

Local TV station website headline was " Hokies rally in 9th to nip Flames 2-1". If you clicked thru they cleaned it up and used "beat" instead.

Attended my 5th MLB game today.
1. Washington Senators (ca 1970 in RFK Stadium)
2. White Sox (ca 1980 in the original Comisky Park)
3. Cubs (2004)
4. Reds (ca 2017 when our daughter still lived in Cincinnati)
And today we went to a Tigers Game. Our son is a big sports fan and wanted to go as his birthday present. Its about 165 miles to Comerica Park. Left at noon. Game at 4. Home by 10. It was Star Wars night. Our row all won free hot dogs. Tigers beat the Orioles 3-0, despite losing their starting pitcher with a broken finger off a line drive in the second. Cabrera got two hits.
