Really feel for the other team here considering what the umpire did (tackling a baserunner and then calling him out to end the game).
But on a positive note happy to see Henderson State get the win as their 2B used to be the SS on my son's all star and travel teams.

I am not completely sure, but it looks like the Ump that called him out was the same one he ran into?
The runner has his eyes on the ball and the Ump run's into his lane. Clearly interference by the Ump to me, but based on the outcome I guess the ump did not feel the same.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

It looked like a close play, and pretty cold of him to call him out after just knocking him down. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Executive summary of the Braves season:
The Good: Longest losing streak only 2 games.
The Bad: Longest winning streak only 2 games.
But the Marlins are in town the next 3 games so who knows?
Losing record on the road. Losing record at home. I guess they're consistent.2,000 milerThe post was edited 1 time, last by max.patch ().

In Pac 12 baseball tourney action...
After 8 1/2 innings Oregon State led UCLA 21-12. If ya left to beat traffic you made a mistake.
After playing a 5 1/2 hour game in 100 degree heat since it is a double elimination tourney they got to rest 45 minutes and do it all over again. Oregon State won this one.
The question the article didn't answer is why do they play their tourney in Scottsdale (suburb of Phoenix) in the summer?2,000 miler -
if it was in Phoenix, the you should say it was ONLY 100 degrees.

Didn't know about this.
Umpires barred Dodgers manager Dave Roberts from using a position player to pitch the ninth inning against the New York Mets on Saturday night, enforcing a rule that prevents teams from using non-pitchers with a deficit of five runs or fewer.
Roberts said he did not realize the rule was in effect after it was initially passed prior to the 2020 season, then suspended for two years amid rule adjustments prompted by the pandemic.2,000 milerThe post was edited 1 time, last by max.patch ().

I was watching this game and thought it was crazy too with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th with the home team down 7-3. The best umpires are the ones you never notice are there. Caused the Astros to burn two extra relievers Sunday going into a game Monday where they knew they would be short handed with a former reliever not quite stretched out starting. So while it did not cost them the Sunday game, it definitely had an impact on Monday's.
Note to men in blue: no one comes to watch you. Please just keep the games fair and moving.

Not news: Oaklahoma wins the College Softball National Championship with a 59-3 record.
News: 41 of those wins were by the 8 run mercy rule.
More news: 33 shutouts, eight no-hitters, holding opponents to one run or fewer 49 times, and hitting home runs in 56 of 62 games.2,000 miler -
This wasn't intentional. Yet. Give it a few years.

The Tampa Bay Rays visited the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon and things got weird on the Bally Sports North broadcast. One of the network's advertising partners is the Treasure Island Casino located in Minnesota and Bally broadcasts a little poker chip with the casino's logo on it during Twins games.
Something went terribly wrong on Saturday, though, and the poker chip ended up all over the broadcast. Like, all over it.

The Astros became the first team in MLB history to pitch 2 immaculate innings in the same game this afternoon against the Rangers.
What I find more interesting than the fact that this is the first time this has happened, is that the Astros got the same 3 batters both times.2,000 milerThe post was edited 1 time, last by max.patch ().

Meanwhile...the adults attempt to play some basebrawl.
Love it when the bullpen comes to the rescue. Theres longer versions out there; this one doesn't show Iglesias throwing the sunflower seeds on the field, the dude who punches someone with his off hand becasue his dominant hand is in a cast, or Winker giving the double bird to the fans as he leaves the field. Another version shows the pitch at Trouts head the night before which is what started all this. Good times.

Freddie Freeman and Braves situation is sad, but it really in the end falls back on him since he hired his agent (fired this past week after visiting Atlanta).
His agent (agency) did a terrible job of representing him. He also could have used his relationship with Chipper Jones to make sure something like this did not happen. Don't fault Alex Anthopoulus for making Matt Olsen trade based upon communication with agent.
CBA negotiations also prevented normal off-season process (but from my perspective that blame goes back to Tony Clark and the players union).
Again, sad because he wanted to stay a Brave and would have taken less money. Although time may show Braves better off with Olsen down the road. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

The Angels interim manager was suspended.
The Angels acting interim manager was suspended.
So the Anglels were managed were by the acting acting interim manager whose day job is the catching coach.

And while the Dodger may have always offered an extra year, when you account for the actual value of the Dodgers contract by adjusting it's real value due to the amount of deferrred money ($57 million -- which one calculation shows is "really" worth $44 million -- a reduction of $13 million) and the difference in the California and Georgia state income tax, the annual values are similar. (I'm just accepting that at face value and passing it along.)2,000 miler -

It was a tough weekend for the Angels. Not only did they get swept by the Astros, they struck out 48 times in the three games, 9 of those by Mike Trout as he went 0-11.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Did not get Red Sox sweep I was hoping for. But at least they split with the Yankees. AL East is going to get interesting in second half as all 5 teams beat up on each other. Even Baltimore Orioles are playing .500, and well over that the past month. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.
