I am used to hiking in a skirt when I head out to California. In Minnesota, I wear pants. For the AT, not so sure. What do women wear on the AT?

I always wear a skirt except in winter. When hiking the BMT, I add compression sleeves to protect my legs from scratches.
On the AT, I see leggings with shorts the most often. Twistwrist just finished a thru hike, she is a good one for info.Lost in the right direction. -
Pants, with Insect Shield for the ticks. I would love to wear a skirt for comfort, but after one go round with a Lyme carrying tick I don't dare. If attempting a thru, the pants are also helpful against poison ivy the further north you go. Because of elevation pants will also help keep you warm for the first 2 months.

My wife always wears long pants.
That's because she gets poison ivy very easily and doesn't want to chance getting it, because when she does it's usually pretty bad.
It's not that there is soooo much poison ivy on the AT, but Kathy just doesn't want to take a chance.
