New to site, so not sure if this is the right forum to ask a specific question. Has anyone tried spraying their cuben fiber tarp with Sawyer Permethrin. If so, any problems with not sticking or harming the fabric? I also want to do my 90 Degree hammock, but that is made from nylon, so should be fine. Am I being totally paranoid with the idea of deer ticks out on the AT? It's bad enough up here in Minnesota. I have sent my hiking clothes to Georgia to get treated.

I've sprayed it on a cuben tarp before and had no problems. I use the sawyer stuff on my shoes, socks, pants, shirt, hat, pack, ground cloth net tent and tent. Pretty much everything but my underwear. In 3 years of section hiking the AT I have had zero tick bites. The danger is real, especially on the northern half of the trail."Dazed and Confused"

The rule about bug spray is for insect repellant like "Off" which would ruin the waterproof coating on nylon tents that were coated. Permethrin is fine on coated fabrics.Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

Yeah as painful as hiking with a torn rotator cuff, and then the expense of surgery and rehab when I got back, I think I still would prefer that over worrying about lyme disease. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Well like anything else you are supposed to make a test "spot" before applying. Permethrin is a true "killing" repellent. Here is the odd part - Mosquito's are not attracted to white objects such as Cuban. They prefer brown, brunette & blond kind of in that order. So no I personally would not spray the tarp.Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you!

I have some Permethrin spray. I was thinking about spraying just hiking shorts and boots. Deet for the mosquitoes on shirt and hat.

Skeeters and other bugs are attracted to Co2, ever wonder why so many sheeters are on your tents bug screen at night, they are attracted to the billowing Co2 that comes from within. A tarp can act much the same way on a calm night, building up levels enough to ring the dinner bell. So spray away if it makes ya feel better, couldn't hurt.
