Yup, been doing it off and on for 20 years. Did one of the DNA test this past year and am having much success and am considering a couple DNA projects once I figure out how to transfer the data. Neato burrito!
It's not too hard to ransomer your data to some of the other sites. It helps to fish in a few different ponds. For genealogy I think AncestryDNA is the best.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

Ugh, I see now what I did wrong, I was shootin' for an unbalanced 2/2 twill, but I blew the shift, oh well, I'm not changing it. This frame loom is at it limits of forgivability, a real table top heddle loom would be the way to go. But the continuous string heddle worked great.

I did a DNA test. In my case I know all my ancestors came from Sweden, so when I got matches from people with no Swedish ancestors, I figured they were missing data or the match was very distant to be meaningless. I got hundreds of matches like this with a low level of match. The only ones worth pursuing were matches significantly higher than the rest. The best I could do is find one 7th cousin even with the best match.

I'm back to 9, correction 8 generations on my line and gaggles of cousins I never new existed. In two instances I've spoke with two of them that share my great great grandfather and they both new my dad and grandfather and have related some stories I never would have heard otherwise, if I stopped now I'd die a happy man.

Anyone else into genealogy? To prepare for my recent trip to Sweden I did a lot of family history research. Ultimately I was able to identify 168 direct ancestors. Of these 8 were born in the US and 160 were born in Sweden. On our trip we visited many ancestral farms. We also met dozens of relatives (3rd, 4th, 5th, cousins). It was a very different kind of trip.

Got a hankering recently to learn embroidery. Not wanting to buy any supplies, I searched my closet and found some old, cross stitch cloth, like 25 years old. The magic closet also yielded lots (and lots) of floss as I've always intended to do some fine, thread weaving.
Coupled with an interest in mandalas, I'm working on a hybrid, cross stitch/embroidery mandala. The plan is to learn different embroidery stitches as I go.Lost in the right direction. -

Probably shouldn't have called it a recital. It's more of a concert a group of us are doing at a small, country church. Gospel and bluegrass.Lost in the right direction. -

The last person who watched a video of my fiddle playing kept flinching. She was moments from putting her hands over her ears and hiding in a corner.

They started practicing just as I arrived, it was Westphalia waltz and they sounded so good, I joined in after a few notes and was so out of tune and screechy that I jumped up, grabbed my tuner, pretending that my violin needed tuning, and went into the bathroom, lol.
I hid in the bathroom and had to talk myself into going back out.
All the songs that I could play on my own and with my teacher were impossible in a group. I couldn't hear her and it was such a cacophony that I got everyone off tempo on boil em cabbage down and messed up on nearly every song.
This teenage kid in front of me kept turning around to look at me every time I played out of tune.
It was bad but I've already started on the music for the next concert although I'm not committing.Lost in the right direction. The post was edited 1 time, last by Traffic Jam ().

I've always had difficulty playing in a group, as hearing other instruments throws off the tempo and key.

Spent most of my lesson talking about the performance and feel much better. Boil em cabbage down wasn't my fault after all.
I'm always very hard on myself.

playing with a group is the way to go. You just need to stick with it. I played string quartets for years. Best training there is as you are alone on your part but you must coordinate with the others.
