One of the problems with a SOBO hike is that you're almost certain to be finishing up in late November, December, or even January. Days will be short and of course there's the real possibility of cold rain, ice, slush, and snow.
NOBO on the other hand, spreads the risk a bit. At least if you wait till, say, mid-March. You may get a bit of that wintry stuff at the very start and the very end of your hike, but probably it'll be more the exception than the rule.
