doraville is a suburb of atlanta.
years ago my sometimes backpacking partner and i took 6 friends who had never been backpacking before on their first trip. everything that could have gone wrong on this trip went wrong (this is the trip i boiled my white gas for coffee water). we hiked the approach, intending to spend the nite at springer. when we arrived at springer (it had rained during the day) it was half full so we decided to hike on to the stover creek shelter. the stover creek shelter, before it was demo'd and rebuilt, was in 3 different locations during its life. at the time it was just a few steps off of fs42. around 11:30, with everyone settled in for the night, we heard a car approaching on the forest service road. it stopped. we heard someone get out of the car and footsteps heading our way. the man stopped in front of the shelter and asked, in a voice that had obviously had a few beers..
"anyone here know how to get to doraville?"

The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

About 15 or so years ago ARS played a outdoor concert in Woodstock. I was working a security detail for them at the show. Afterwards me and a few other cops were invited on their tour bus and went bar hopping in Marietta. THAT was a fun night....RIAP -

I'm proud to share my hometown with this man.Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

It's a lazy Sunday and lightly raining...a great day for bread baking and listening to ZZ Top.

I just finished watching that video and it made me realize that it's been ages since the last time I've seen anyone hitch hiking anywhere near where I live.
It's a sad state of mind, and society, to be in that we don't trust each other enough to catch a ride with each other.
Just disregard this old man's musings, I think I'm out of touch with 21st century America. -
