Ok. This is what I'm trying to figure out;
Where is the safest place to park for 5-7 nights for someone who is hiking both the AT and BMT and doesn't want to hike the Approach Trail?Lost in the right direction. -

Decision made, parking will be at Amicalola and the girl is hiking the Approach Trail.
Can't say I'm happy about it because it means I don't have time to hike all of the Georgia BMT, I'll have to skip some miles. And I think she would be happier if she starts at Springer.Lost in the right direction. -

When hiking the approach trail yesterday and today, I noticed there is addition parking at Nimblewill Gap which is 5.8 miles from Amicalola and 2.9 miles from Springer. Just another option. The road is a bit rough, so it looked like mostly jeeps and trucks parked out there.www.appalachiantrailclarity.com - Life on the A.T.

the year after i drove to nimblewill gap, the GATC had a work trip that required driving to nimblewill. the leader had a 4wd truck; he turned around and cancelled the trip. the next year the road was actually closed for a while becasue of its condition.
fs42 gets a lot of traffic and accordingly gets regular maintenance for a forest service road.2,000 miler -
