Did you bear-bag with a grape vine? I hate to think you would wind up in that circle of Hell reserved for hikers who don't bear bag. They will be clawed and mauled for all eternity.TrafficJam wrote:

I'll confess I tried to go to Woodstock. Couldn't get time off. Yes, I was trying to be a Good Citizen, and only go if I had permision to take the time off. The movie is good. But I wouldn't have dealt with the pouring rain well. I didn't have anything to keep the rain off that year. The nudity would probably have freaked me out back then. Maybe I see that event with rose colored glasses, maybe not.

I confess that A Walk in the Woods and AWOL on the AT inspired me to do a section hike, having never backpacked in my life
I over-packed
Had to throw my almonds in the woods
At Thomas Knob Shelter I camped 6 feet from the trail, where my food bag hung from a tree about my height
When the opportunity came I took the Creeper Trail instead of the AT
In Damascus I took 2 extra zero days
After Abingdon Gap Shelter, had myself fetched and delivered to Kinkora, skipping 30 miles
Then rested there 3 days before I went home
I'm not sure you can actually call this a section hike. But, I did not feel guilty!

BTW - weren't you going thru hurricane Camille on a ship in the Atlantic ocean around that time?

I like the video. I agree with the video. But why would you post it? This site has 3 rules. Why are they so difficult to follow? if this site disappears you got whiteblaze and Facebook. Is that what you want?

Yes, learned quite a bit that first time. . . . and still learning! That was in 2011, then went back the next two years. Last year concentrated on the West Coast and will do the same this year.TrafficJam wrote:

Forgive me cafe for I have sinned. I was judgemental. 35 miles onto my 40 mile section hike I climbed up to the Crescent Rocks Overlook in SNP (my favorite). I sat on the rocks staring into the abyss for a while. On the wsy back to the access trail I saw a car from Ohio pull into the empty parking lot. A young woman steps out of the passanger seat and jumps on to of the stone wall railing. With her back to the overlook, she attaches her phone to a selfie stick, takes a picture, jumps back in the car, and drives off - total elapsed time maybe 30 seconds. She never once looked at the view and no one else got out of the car. Am I wrong for feeling they are all butt heads?
