Tuolumne Meadows Campsite Closed due to Plague

For those doing JMT or hiking in Yosemite. My question is why not close it down now rather than in a few das?

What kind of plague?

I also read on that page that two hikers were killed in the valley by a falling limb.

Plague = Bubonic as far as I know. Still around, but less common now that source & treatment/prevention is known.

Two youths killed as the slept in another part of part. A trajety & my prayers go out to their family, but just a freak accident I believe.

It's Bubonic. They get sporadic cases in Arizona and New Mexico every year. Usually on Indian reservations.

Yellowstone has had problems with Hantavirus in the past. That's one of my concerns about staying in shelters.

One never knows when they're time is up, I should have died several times, as they say, God watches over kids, drunks and fools and I've been all three, was hiking the Lakeshore Trail when a limb fell , the small branches whipped my head but I was about 1 second ahead of the main branch which fell behind me...thank you Lord!

Same here. That's one of the reasons I use a tarp with separate net tent.
