When I decided to thru-hike the AT I broke the news to my boss at a company dinner over the salad course. We were a small outfit, just 6 of us & I mentioned by the way I want 6 months off next year. After he finished choking he asked "What?" I said I wanted six months offf. I would prefer to start in March but it could be delayed untill June. He choked again & asked if I exspected to have a job when I came back. I replied "I don't care!" I had 3 standing job offers a the time. We then got into why & other stuff. Next day over coffee he said it would be better for me to start in March.

I have worked about the equivalent of two months full time work since I quit to hike the AT in March 2013.
I am told my current position is "house bitc#".

it'll be nice to get away for a while. this place needs some new trip reports. hopefully twistwrist will continue to bless us with her prose as she walks home.i'm getting tired of beer, football, and politics.

One thing I'd advise, for Hikerboy specifically -- days are getting short. Shorter by several minutes every day. Even last week, the woods were dark by 7 PM. It'll be dark by 6:45 or 6:30 PM when you start your HMW hike a couple of weeks from now.

its looking like we'll just end up hiking from abol bridge to gulf hagas, where we're leaving violet b's car.as we both have to be home the following monday, that leaves 7 days, and unless the weather absolutely sucks, we dont plan on hurrying.its all good

i havent been here too much the past few days. the new position keeps me busier than i was before so my postings have been limited. ive been on the job a week and a half and already i need a vacation!! i am soo looking forward to getting away. im also happy with my new role. i have an opportunity to grow our business, we finished out the month very strong, and the boss is pretty impressed with the rapid turnaround.i feel good about the move, but havent changed my plans for idaho.i'm not sure 100 % what i'll do for a few months, but want to make sure our plans are in place before i have to decide.
so the other day im checking the forecast for next weeks hike, and heavy rains were predicted most of the week.violet sends me a message, fk,fk,fk. told her not to worry, itll change.
yesterday things started to change and now the current forecast is much more promising.

the HMW isn't much of a wilderness anymore with people paying for food resupplys halfway.
but if ya can get a cell signal there then we need to get a new name for it.

The BIG kid on the right scored the Stanley Cup winning game seven overtime goal, for the first New York Islander Championship. The Nighthawk shirt, that Burt, in front is wearing, was the Islander farm team in the 70s, of our town. Bob Nystrom rented an apartment from the mom of one of my asst. coaches, when he was there. He was shocked to see him after those years and invited my boys to come in the Islander locker room!Cheesecake> Ramen

You know it!!! Another Nighthawk, Jerry McDonald, Rangers and Whalers, married this smokin' blonde from Derby, Ct. They settled in Wethersfield, Ct. They have a son Colin, same age as my son. Jerry and I had the only teams of 5 year olds that could actually play the game. We played many times in their youth, in summer Jerry and I had a summer team. Colin was a very intense young man. My point finally...... Colin has been with the islanders for the past 3 seasons!Cheesecake> Ramen
