i wouldnt do flip flops, for the simple reason that occasionally i like to wear socks with my camp shoes, and socks are a bit awkward with flip flops, which are also fairly useless for stream crossings.crocs have the advantage of being able to walk in dewy grass or across shallow puddles without getting your feet wet, the vivos give better stability at half the weight, but they are pricy.
none of these are at all necessary, but a luxury.i wouldnt carry them at all if i knew i didnt have any water crossings.although wearing trail runners my feet get wet all the time, they dry out after a while. i dont like having to cross a stream in the morning oon a dry sunny day, and then have my shoes soaked for the next few hours. rasty went barefoot on the sections of bmt we hiked together, but i liked having a little extra protection on my feet from sharp rocks.
