I use Core water bottles when I can get them. they're long like the smartwater bottle, but with wide mouth to make it easy to drink from, and has a nice cap for scooping water if needed. 3cba6aed-3c5e-4a4a-9574-26146469caed.53ba8fc2d33b662cc01d09083fe3d67c.jpeg

Last year, I camped at Bryson Gap the first night( I skipped the approach trail) with a guy , Bulldog, I had actually hiked with in 2013 on the AT. One of the reasons I went back to the BMT again was the lack of cell service, but this trip i had service nearly everywhere. There was a tornado watch on,and we both watched the radar screen as a huge red blob made it's way toward us. I posted something about it on FB, and some replied to it telling me to stay safe. With nowhere to hide, that was a di…

He was wearing a pretty cool shirt. They came to the Gathering again last year and showed a film they made about their hike. I'll be hiking from DWG up to Greenwood Lake starting tomorrow. I had debated using my time off to go to trail days, but decided I'd rather hike. The weather forecast is perfect for the next week, with a couple of mornings dipping into the mid 30s. At the same time, I'll be able to update my section of ALDHA's Thru Hiker's Companion. I'm the field editor for the NJ section. The entire section is 72 miles, but I'll be starting at AMC Mohican Center. I'm leaving my car near Greenwood Lake and getti…

Quote from max.patch: “I've actually briefly thot about going to Trail Days twice. 15-20 years ago I had a weekend where the weather was supposed to be nice and the neither of the boys had a sporting event to coach/watch. So I got permission to go to Grayson Higlands for a few days. As I drove thru Damascus -- from where I live you have to drive thru Damascus to get to Grayson Highlands -- it was obvious it was Trail Days weekend. I was probably driving thru on Thursday so it wasn't crazy yet. I…
