Rain, rain, and more rain. Flooding has been terrible and someone died when they drove into deep water about a mile from my house. I’m sick of it. I feel like it’s unsafe to hike...with the mudslides, sinkholes, and raging rivers. I wonder how the January-start thru hikers are faring, it has to be miserable. It’s so damp and this week it’s going to be very cold, with lows below 20* in the valley (no telling what mountain temps will be.)

PostQuote from Wise Old Owl: “Quote from Traffic Jam: “I had a nice walk today as I explored House Mountain just outside Knoxville. Not many actual miles to add to my (still nonexistent) 2019 Mileage List. It was only 3 miles of hiking but about 20 miles for the smileage list! It was amazing to hike up to the ridge and sit for a while, listening to the sleet, gazing at the view with a thermos of coffee by my side and cheese, pepperoni, and bagel chips for lunch. Hiking in winter is wonderful. The Ho…

PostWalked 3 miles the other day on some local trails with a 20# pack. It was muddy and there were some blow downs so the pack had to be removed and pushed in front of me. It was a muddy mess but fun. Oops, just remembered my muddy shoes are still in the car.

Took the NyQuil last nite and woke up at 3 soaking wet.......... would you call this the Flu ? ” Either that or menopause. Hope you feel better soon.

PostWalked 4 miles with a 15# pack. It was on asphalt. Trying to decide if that constitutes hiking and can be added to my mileage? I sat down this morning and started my 2019 mileage list. One of my problems is sometimes I don’t know how many miles I hiked and have to guess.

PostOne more point. It’s like a red hot without the cinnamon flavor and the heat sort of masks the smooth bourbon taste. In a way, it’s like a rough, cheap(?) bourbon. I still like it. For some reason, it makes me think of a Bloody Mary with pickled jalapeños.

PostI think at our age, any time we get out it’s a win and it definitely counts! Unless you’re a purist. What would a ‘no asphalt, trail only’ purist be called? NATO?

Postexcuse me...it’s ‘Tabasco barrel finished’. It’s interesting. Sort of sweet with a spicy finish. Reminds me of a redhot...is that what it’s called? Those little cinnamon candies? Second taste is yummmm.

PostEvery day I remind myself to write down my mileage this year before it slips my mind but then don’t do it. I’m already starting to forget my mileage. Question, do we include walking on greenways/asphalt? What if it includes a little running? Ugh, this is getting complicated.

Postlol, I bought an airplane-sized bottle of George Dickel aged in Tabasco barrels. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. Report coming soon.

PostQuote from Drybones: “Got me a big ice cube maker, may be all in my head, but it does seem to make the drinks better. ” I like ice in mine but it seems the ice melts quicker than it should, watering it down too much. It (unconsciously) makes me drink faster. I gotta do something about that.

PostQuote from StalkingTortoise: “Quote from Traffic Jam: “Quote from jimmyjam: “Anybody tried Pappy Van Winkle? ” Nope but it looks really good...and pricey. I googled it and it’s bottled at the same distillery that bottles Buffalo Trace.Just discovered that they also bottle Larceny, Henry McKenna, et al. I feel stupid...didn’t realize that distilleries bottle other brands of bourbon. ” I believe the distillation process is generic. The aging process is what gives each bourbon its own character. An…
