Traffic Jam - - Trip Planning

    Post

I’m thinking about hiking the FHT in January. The temps don’t worry me but rain + cold causes some concern. Maybe I should only do half, just in case it sucks? Or plan for half and keep hiking if the weather is good? Maybe no plan is the best plan?

The best part was sticking my finger in the middle of the dough and spinning it around to make the hole.

Bagels have been on my learn-to-make list so decided to make them today. They were surprisingly easy and turned out really good. The outside is chewy but not tough and the inside is soft. Fresh bread, hot out of the oven, is one of the best things in life. I didn’t add any spices or seeds since this was the first batch but I’ll start experimenting with different toppings and flavors. (And try to make them more aesthetically pleasing).

I made scones using 1/2 White Lily and 1/2 all purpose flour, 2 cups of each. (Sorry, I think my previous post says I use bread flour but that isn’t true) Anyway, the scones rose much higher than normal when baking. My eyes bulged when I saw them...worried they would be too fluffy but they are great. The texture is about the same as normal but maybe li…

It pales in comparison to the Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio. At least that's what I think now. ” Yeah, we were going to take part of an extra day, but we got it into one (plus the evening before) so we could back home before Thanksgiving Thursday. That reminds of the first time I saw Niagara Falls after just …

  • Quote from Wise Old Owl: “Well I am enthusiastic about putting this together,,,, and that is a lot of happy when it comes to this old curmudgeon. ” Yeah, I think the white lily could replace the cake flour and maybe even the bread flour. Cake flour has a low protein content and is made from sort winter wheat...the same as White Lily. Y’all have me craving biscuits, maybe I’ll make some on Saturday.

This bag is like sleeping on a cloud, I love it! I tried it out last night on my deck in 28* with snow flurries and stayed toasty warm. The test was only for an hour and it was so comfy, I nearly fell asleep. If I ever get a day off, I’ll set up the tent and try it all night. Y’all have no idea how happy this makes me.

  • I’ve got some White Lily but don’t use it much. I’ll have to try it in my scones. Obviously, I have a baking problem.

  • Quote from Wise Old Owl: “I am so glad as a group you took a little notice on the article! Occasionally I feel a little ignored. This article impacted me so much I drove for an hour into Maryland to pick up 2 pounds of White Lilly and I am not a southerner. We have made two batches and my wife is clearly confused. both batches were baked and turned out well and were not hockypucks. We are adjusting the recipe. My thoughts are to adjust the recipe to Scones eventually. Huge thanks! CANT WAIT TO A…

The bag arrived yesterday, I was so excited to get home from work to find it waiting for me. It is awesome, the quality is fantastic, the loft is incredible. Seriously, it’s perfect, not too roomy, not too snug...just right. I can cinch the hood so only my nose and mouth are exposed and it doesn’t feel claustrophobic. My only worry is that it will be too warm. I soooo want to try it out but have two more days of work in this stretch. I’m hoping for Wednesday, temps will be down to 31*, although …

Quote from jimmyjam: “Just finished "Badlands" by Peter Bowen. Really enjoyed it, suspense, action and humor. Thanks TJ for the recommendation. I've had a nasty upper respiratory infection/sinus infection all week so I've done a ton of reading. Worst sore throat I've ever had and constantly coughing up crap kills my throat and I can't sleep so I read. Can't wait to be rid of this URI!!!!! ” I hope you are feeling better! Quote from jimmyjam: “I've tried the foam pad on top and under my inflatable, and for me it's definitely warmer and feels better with the foam pad on top. However sometimes I bring the foam along in the summer and I'll put it under the inflatable because it will keep it from sliding around. ” It has something to do with warm air getting trapped in the cells of the CCF pad or something like that. And the warmth gets lost to the ground at a slower rate with the CCF in the middle. But it sounds lik…
