If you park at Springer (aka Big Stamp Gap) and hike South to the top (.09) take the usual photos etc. then turn around and hike down, cross through the parking lot and continue North to the Stover Creek Shelter you will have done about 4.6 miles.

Spring training has started. Looking forward to seeing how the new and "improved" Braves do this year.

Even though I live close to AFSP I'm yet to attend one of these. I may go this year just to say I went. Plus it would be a bonus to meet Gene Espy if he's there.

It will be busy but don't let that deter you. Get out there and embrace the experience. I hiked it a few days ago an ran across several prospective thru's. Normally weekends will be busier than mid-week.

Thursday and Friday was our 3rd annual Father/Son hike to the Len Foote Hike Inn near Amicalola Falls SP. This year my brother in law and his son came along. My commute is easy. Takes about 15 minutes. Two red lights and three stop signs. As for the OP. I've always found that strapping a 25lb backpack on and walking up and down mountains all day as a pretty sure fire way to build my endurance.
