We live on a flat one mile loop at the top of a hill in a plan of 128 homes. We buy 250 snack size, one apiece and never make the whole 2 hours of official Trick or Treat. Kids from the rural area aound us get trucked in for the event. I can't complain too loud because as a kid, I used to stay at friends house in a neighborhood instead of down on the farm!

  • Quote from LIhikers: “Looks like these plans might change. The young woman we took out earlier this year for her first backpacking trip might want to come along with us next spring. If she does in fact join us then I think we'll hike the AT across Maryland, Harper's Ferry to Penn Mar park. Only time will tell. ” That is a nice hike, I have done it 4 times total, 2 times in each direction. The train to Harpers Ferry is the easiest way for me to get to the AT.

  • I walked about 2 miles of it this summer with my sister as part of another trail in Worlds End State park. I don't know much more about it. It is in the middle of the state while I live in the west.

  • Quote from Astro: “I believe I have the same pillow now (HikerBoy recommendation). It sleeps much better, but not as easy to clean after a month of summer hiking (as your clothes bag and clothes that you wash weekly). Life is full of tradeoffs, and we each get to make our own. ” You need to use a Buff as a pillow case, keeps it clean and you can still use the Buff as a Buff during the day.

I built one before I knew you could buy them, the problem is once it stops raining you can't tuck the sleeves back in because they are wet. Wet sleeves flapping are no fun at all. I went with an umbrella, rain skirt, and my jacket with the hood rolled up and worn backwards if the rain is real heavy. This gives you a jacket for set up camp and town, but worn backwards over the pack straps your back doesn't sweat. I add some sort of hook to the top of the jacket to make it work. Just tuck the fron…

Quote from uncle meat: “Comfrey I gotta look up...never heard of it. ” It can be invasive, but great stuff for organic gardens. Use the leaves as mulch, make tea as plant food, add to the compost pile. The deep roots pull up nutrients from the subsoil.
