  • Hiking Plans 2019

Traffic Jam - - Trip Planning

    Post

I hope to finish the Foothills trail. For me, the FHT has a narrow hiking season and I either need to do it before May or in the fall. It would be nice to do more AT sections, specifically the northern half of SNP, I40 to Damascus, maybe some day hikes in PA during visits to my daughter. There are a few more Cumberland Trail hikes on my list but that trail has so many obstacles and restrictions that I likely won’t finish it. It’s a great trail and I will always love it and support it.

Quote from jimmyjam: “Anybody tried Pappy Van Winkle? ” Nope but it looks really good...and pricey. I googled it and it’s bottled at the same distillery that bottles Buffalo Trace. Just discovered that they also bottle Larceny, Henry McKenna, et al. I feel stupid...didn’t realize that distilleries bottle other brands of bourbon.

I slept outside the other night and tested my bag down to 16*. It is awesome! My face was still cold though. Someone once suggested a scarf and that is #1 on my things to try. I’m thinking a fleece scarf, not one that is hand knitted wool. A fleece balaclava is #2 on the list, only because I don’t want to spend $40 for one and not sure my sewing skills are good enough to make one.

We will put your number on the board. When a hiker comes in we put their trail name next to the number, take their picture and post it on Facebook so you can see who you purchased the item for. Follow the following link: squareup.com/store/thestationat19e ” That’s a pretty cool idea. Some people can’t get out a…

speaking of which... I have never not approved a new post except the other day. It was an ad by the new gamer member for a basketball video game. And it was a strange ad, such that I felt it didn’t need to be posted. Maybe I overstepped? There are a lot of basketball fans here.

Easy way to remember the TMNTs is that they are in alphabetical order (DLMR). ” Yes you are right about TN, forgot there was a tie. As for the TMNT, a few years ago on our trip to Italy we spent 4 days in Florence going to all of the major art galleries, so that's how I remember them. Also in "The School of Athens", Raphael painted both himself and Mic…

I sampled two varieties of Belle Meade bourbon this evening, the classic and the Cask Strength. Both are delicious...smooth with hints of smoke and caramel. They are pricey though. A little too pricey for me. The distillery is in Nashville, very close to my girl’s new apartment...perfect for a visit and free sample!

Yesterday, Time Zone and I met for a day hike. We met in Tellico Plains and visited Bald River Falls which was amazing. All of the rain created quite a sight. We did a loop hike on Bald River Falls Trail and Cow Camp Trail with a short road walk back to the car. We then drove up to Unicoi Crest and hiked a few miles on the BMT. I think it was his first BMT hike(?). I was excited to introduce TZ to the BMT and it was nice to see my hiking buddy. Plus, the sun was shining...it was a great day.

Holy cow. I just saw on FB that Rasty got married! Congratulations!

  • Quote from Troplop: “@Astro Thanks for the feedback. I've done a decent amount of trail running and the idea to wear trail runners sounds great, I hadn't considered that and was leaning more towards hiking boots. Gear is going to be very difficult for me to gather, as I'm pretty unfamiliar with backpacking gear/essentials. The only thing I'm pretty set on is sleeping in a hammock with some sort of shell/cover, as that seems to be by far the lightest/easiest to set up. Any good resources for gear…

I stepped in a whole bunch of shyte behind the Sloan Bridge picnic area...a consequence of the government shut down...and right next to a stream. Man, was I pissed.

  • Sorry, can’t help myself....but have you considered the Benton Mackaye Trail? It starts at Springer, can be hiked in three weeks or less, and you get the satisfaction of completing a BMT thru hike.
