Quote from rhjanes: “That hiker made poor choices followed by more poor choices and then some more. Could he be subject to a rescue bill? ” From the tone of the article, I assume that is coming next. Wonder how much it costs to send two whole Cog Railway Trains up the mountain for one person?

No, we all should though. Last time I was in Millinocket I hit a Hot Dog stand. Certain parts of Maine have these weird red hot dogs called 'Red Snappers.' Worth a try.

  • Quote from Sarcasmtheelf: “I'm tentatively on board, with the caveat that between work and kids I have often have a very hard time keeping any weekends clear. Also, you may want to post this to You Got This! on FB, as a few members there are familiar with the trail and I think at least one member is very well versed with the whole thing. ” Assplug! Thanks for the tip, but I will let the core group discuss this here first before reaching out. Yes, it may take work to find agreeable weekends. That…

  • Hello Hikers, I am creating this thread mostly for my Connecticut and Long Island friends who join the annual MLK weekend hike, but all are welcome to join the potential hike and discuss. My proposal is that we do an annual weekend hike of the New England Trail (Now officially a National Scenic Trail) with the end goal of completing the entire trail. Here are my thoughts... - Some of these sections could be done on MLK weekend, but I admit I would prefer more prime season hiking. At a minimum ma…

Quote from LIhikers: “While I'm not familiar with any of that, I'd bet the southern end has a lot of road walking and few places to camp. ” The New England Trail part has few shelters and crosses private land, so in that section thru-hikers are encouraged to stay in town in parts.

Oh, I love Melanie. She wrote that song after and about Woodstock. We were so close there was no room We bled inside each others wounds We all had caught the same disease And we all sang the songs of peace Some came to sing, some came to pray Some came to keep the dark away Look on Youtube for the version she sang live in the Netherlands.

Nene, Big Island: The world's rarest goose and Hawaii's state bird. In 1952 there were only 30 Nene left in existence. Conservationists saved the birds from the brink of extinction, and today over 3000 Nene live in the wild. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…36497663a6f5dabf2370859b0 I asked Nolan what he wanted to do in Hawaii, and his answer was to see a Nene. Quote from hikerboy: “Yesterday I hiked in a park I'd never heard of. I'd seen it mentioned in a FB group so I decided to check it out, and I'm glad I did. It's called Trail View State Park. Turns out it's got some fun trails, not too challenging, and a lot of possible loop variations. It does share some of the trails with mountain bikes, but yesterday I was mostly alone, no hikers and one mountain biker. I'll go back again.
