  • The trekking pole thread.

Anything I can pull on to help me get uphill is a blessing. Downhill, I'm always afraid of falling and use them to steady and increase balance. Balance during stream crossings. They are a pain sometimes and my biggest complaint is that my hands aren't free to do the myriad of other things I want to do as I amble down the trail...

I like to wear gaiters cause they make me look like a real hiker! Actually, I don't wear them much cause I'm lazy. Don't see that much difference on trail, it's off trail that they protect from briars. Wait, this is Florida. You guys don't care bout Florida!

  • Took a walk today

    Post

I have never went for a hike and wound up knitting! Is this a new skill I have to learn to get to be a real hiker? I will admit to going on a hike and falling asleep the first time I stopped for water and a break. It was a bit embarrassing to later realize that a number of people walked past me as I lay there snoring...

The advice here is just stellar!!!! There are some things your body just can't do. Sometimes your body can do a lot more than you expected it to do. My experience is, it really doesn't matter. When the Doc says go, jump in with both feet. My last expedition was a complete disaster. I got hit by lightening. I got caught in a rainstorm and all my stuff got wet. It snowed and I was the coldest I've ever been. I got tendonitis in my ankles and couldn't walk. I sunburned the top of my bald head so ba…

I think it's great. I can mail the book to the various places on the trail, have them stamp it and mail it back. I can do the whole trail without getting wet, tired, cold, or hot. No more blisters. No more huffing and puffing like a freight train going up the hills. Now even Steven Hawkin can through hike!

It's not a complaint, just an astute observation. Mental illness and thread drift indicate an inability to maintain a train of thought. During the years I lived on a boat I was exposed to a lot of tiki bars and oh by the way, they have the best flavored rum in the Bahamas that tasted like coconut. I used coconut milk to mix drinks but that's not what I'm talking about. Around 200 people a year worldwide are killed by falling coconuts. I'm not trying to indicate that coconuts are dangerous, just …

Welcome topic question… Is there going to be a humor section? I don't want to mix a serious question like whether or not to take a gun to a privy with frivolous topics like pack weight. Oh the stress and pressure of learning a new site…. Where is my avatar? Do real men wear kilts?
