  • Quote from rhjanes: “I think two great performances by Martin, the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Roxanne. ” Yes. Those are great too.

  • I don't think I ever got around to seeing The Jerk. My favorite Steve Martin film is LA Story. youtube.com/watch?v=CqyVui6Qns…6BzLj6LCKxb_IWJ1S&index=6

  • Quote from hikerboy: “There's nothing wrong with buying used gear, as long as there's nothing wrong with the gear itself.... ” I would add that this is especially true for quality gear. Osprey doesn't make the lightest pack, but it is probably the best selling pack so it is likely to retain its value well. It works well for many people so there is a good chance it can work for you.

  • Along with Silver Streak in the "inter-racial odd-couple buddies ally with femme fatale to battle the rich and powerful bad guys" movie category is Trading Places.

  • Quote from rhjanes: “Quote from Astro: “Silver Streak great classic movie. Love the line where Richard Pryor introduces himself as "I'm a thief". ” Great Cast. Gene Wilder, Scatman Crothers stealing scenes, Jill Clayburgh, Patrick McGoohan ultimate sinister ruthless badguy, Ned Beatty as the Vitamin salesman talking about scoring with the ladies, but he's an undercover cop, Clifton James as the sheriff stealing scenes (Don't Shoot!), and Ray Walson NOT playing "Aloha Mr. Hand"....And don't overl…

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I pulled "Ireland In Pictures" off our shelf, a book I bought at a used book store quite a few years ago. It is a "Coffee Table Book" with 400 pages of beautiful large-format photographs of Ireland. What makes it remarkable is it was published in 1898 in America. At that time, there were millions of 2nd-generation Irish-Americans whose only knowledge of their ancestral homeland was what their immigrant parents may have told them. This book was produced to show them…

The HF train station is only 430 feet from the trail. I guess that doesn't count as right on the trail.

  • Quote from StalkingTortoise: “On my first section hike in 2003, my buddy Receding Hare had pre-cooked prime rib servings (from Omaha Steaks) Fed-Ed's to the Mohican Outdoor Center. We ate like kings. After a hot shower, of course. I'm going to do the same as often as possible in the 100-Mile Wilderness. Life's too short to live it uncivilized. ” I am.planning a HMW hike for this summer. Where are the hot showers that accept FedEx deliveries between Monson and Abol Bridge? Must be at all of those…

Quote from rhjanes: “I found the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the book to be funny and entertaining. After that, I found it borderline annoying. The movie was disappointing. But the book was not really about hiking anyway. ” Pretty much the same. But I think alot of people would have enjoyed the book more if they realized it was not about hiking, but was about NOT hiking. My favorite bits were his observations about how our society is geared driving and not walking. He was doing a zero in some town and f…
