  • Quote from AnotherKevin: “Quote from hikerboy: “ no one has ever been told they're not welcome here there are no battle lines.” At the very least, there was a horrible miscommunication. It left me with quite a bad taste in my mouth.” If that bad taste comes from my views, it should be noted that I speak for no one but me. I certainly am not a spokesman for this site. I just have strong opinions about how people react (or don't react) to people being banned or disciplined elsewhere. At the very l…

Quote from OzJacko: “I used to golf. Handicap was 12. LW if TOS is "just an internet site" why do they feel it necessary to put the following on my logon? You have been banned for the following reason: TOS #13 Date the ban will be lifted:Never I have not been on the site since February and was previously banned until 25th May. I can only assume the ban was extended for my comments in here. By the way, I had paid for silver membership.” It is this kind of story makes me wonder about a great many …

Quote from CoachLou: “Memorial Day got you all Yankee Doodely , BB?” This constant whining about what happens on another site has. I feel like I am 15 and listening to my mother and her friends taking about the neighbors as they paint artex or whatever it is called. Taking a break. Later lurkers.

Someone please explain the need to debate/discuss TOS over here. Do they do the same about us over there? I underatand that we have freedom and they do not. I would suggest that with freedom comes a responsibility to act in a manner that shows responsibility and appreciation of said freedom. We should be showing the hiking world that there is a better way. Instead we justify the despot's actions. We prove that such freedom cannot be entrusted to people and that we need to be protected from ourse…

Quote from LoboSolo: “y'all take this typin' and hikin' **** too serious. Whiteblaze is just a website” Whiteblaze is a fantastic concept with great people contributing and an idiot at the helm. This place does not have that last issue. I wouldn't drink a glass of water with a lunger floating on top. Some would. That is their choice. It is just drink spit.

BB, would that be the most pathetic passive aggressive act? Good news from here ... I'm on my 2nd to the last dose of chemo. Doc says everything is going away. If so, that was is what is stupid. Let that freaking site go already. Or at least fight over there instead. Perhaps I am the one being stupid now. Would not be the first or last time.

It gets confusing when there is a MilkMan And MountainMike. I call the 1st one ATM because of a previous name he had on some other unimportant site. After typing this, I looked to see what Astro meant. I think he meant TJ (TrafficJam). And on that note: I thank God for those who risked their lives so I could live as…

I am not sure if I have insulted every stove builder yet. I will try to dig my hole deeper with this "clarification". YouTube is littered with zombie Apocalypse prepper diy stove building tips. The videos proudly show how to build stoves that look like and run like crap. There seems to be some sort of glory in building stoves in 2 minutes. It reminds me of much modern art. There is willful ignorance about stoves. It is possible to build a stove that weighes less than 10 grams and can boil 2 cups…

I should add to my rant to make one thing clear. I am talking about homemade stoves. There are many talented builders out there selling quality products. I am not disparaging their craftsmanship. I am disparaging the efforts of people on par with me.

I wish I went more expensive on some things. Some things can be made for pennies. Other things should not be viewed as a one time expensive purchase. You should instead, divide the cost over the miles you think it might be used for. Ask yourself if it is worth a few more pennies per mile to carry a quality item. Believe me, you will have that discussion with yourself after you have carried an inferior item a few hundred miles. As an example, I so wish I bought a quality down bag. Warmer and ligh…

Under the questionable assumption that there was a constant rate of fuel consumption, the amount of alcohol that was taken to achieve the first boil was: 37 mm: 0.56 fl oz 41 mm: 0.54 fl oz 46 mm: 0.52 fl oz So the slower stove was marginally more efficient. There has to be a "sweet spot" for fuel efficiency, assuming a patient hiker. There will be a low level of flame at which the pot loses heat to the environment as fast …
