Quote from twistwrist: “Sooooo, the answer to my question is no? Boo!” Okay, to be serious (that's twice this month--I hope I don't get put on moderated status), I'm not. Were I still home, I may have considered it, but now that I'm back out of the country it's out of the question.

Welcome, Danger. Nice to have a brother firefighter as well as another Buckeye around. I no longer live in Ohio but was born and raised in central western Ohio. Little town called New Carlisle. Not far from Springfield and Dayton.

Quote from OzJacko: “At the end of the day we need to consider what we seek. I like very long walks with a fair amount of "communing with nature" and enjoy good views. I like set trails because they provide easy logistics for resupply, habitation and trip planning. But at the end of the day, I don't want to break my body and I don't want to climb every hill. I want to see the "best" that I can. In my experience not all trails are built to show the best. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a classic. The r…

  • Not too far north of Harpers Ferry the AT passes through the South Mountain battlefield. A precursor to the battle of Sharpsburg (or Antietam if you must). The Sharpsburg battlefield isn't terribly far off the trail itself. Provided you're interested in history, that is.

Coffee. Food is just a fuel. Coffee is life. I've done the Mountain House meals (some right tasty stuff those), summer sausage/cheese/crackers, a few different things slathered on tortillas. Nothing has really jumped out as a frontrunner. Maybe that's just due to my limited time in the woods. However, coffee stands above all else. I could say screw breakfast and just eat some snack stuff while walking, but I WILL take time to boil water and have coffee before I get moving.
