I watched a movie last night that made me think of this thread. The movie was called "Losing The Way". Two explorers take on the Great Western Trail of the United States, as well as personal and natural challenges, in an expedition that has never been documented before. They start on the Arizona/Mexico border and work their way to Canada, trying to stay on dirt roads the whole way. They used a Nisson Pathfinder. The scenery was Awesome the whole way. If I was 25 years younger I'd love to try tha…

Quote from odd man out: “I've been reading about getting GCNP permits. Apparently if you get a permit for hiking in the summer away from the corridor trails with water, you get an email that effectively says "congratulations, you got a permit, but if actually do this hike you're going to die". ” There was a pretty good documentary called "Into The Grand Canyon". Instead of a r2r, two guys hike the length of the canyon.

The lady told me I could rip off my mask and run through the Covid unit. It’s such a relief, especially after taking care of a very sick lady yesterday. : ” - Just make sure to stay away from the strain coming out of South Africa.

No JMT for me. Just trying to figure it out for the desolation wilderness. I piggybacked Clarity’s post about the JMT just to get an idea. Lake Aloha for example is 8,110’. So now I kinda know what to expect. I’ll be checking the site Muddywaters mentioned.

Thanks! Trying to figure if my 30* bag is good enough. Seems to be right on the edge. My wife’s 40* bag my not be enough. I can do what we always do when she gets cold. I unzip my bag and use it like a quilt, so I can cover her with half of my bag. It usually helps.

Quote from max.patch: “I use an old REI day pack that isn't made anymore. Every once in a while I look at replacements becasue it isn't going to last forever. I like it becasue it has 2 water bottle pockets on the sides, and another small storage pocket on the back, so you don't need to dig thru the body of the pack to get to them. I also like that they totally zip shut -- nothing will ever fall out of em. ” I have a Rei Traverse that I use. It sounds just like yours max.

You mentioned trucks. I have a full size truck. For FS and other back roads a full size truck has its down sides. Passing on a narrow dirt road can be tough sometimes. Especially if it’s another full size coming towards you. A full size truck is also tougher to park and get out at some trail heads. My wife has a Subaru cross trek ‘14. Were a little over 150k miles and are starting to think about trading it in. We love the gas mileage that it gets. The ground clearance is great too. Better than m…

Our neighbor Robert is a cousin of my wife. His son in law (used to be our neighbor) passed away Christmas Eve from Covid. The day after Christmas the trailer behind our house caught fire. Robert pounded on our door and when we looked it was fully ablaze. Roberts brother was still inside but there was nothing we could do. ( My wife was in a house fire when she was 12 and spent eight months at a Shriners hospital recovering. Every time we go out the door we see the burnt down structure. Gotta be …

Yes, I sell them on eBay. Funko makes Pops of musicians, athletes, tv, movie, actors,etc.. They can be found at Walmart, target, Barnes and nobles, Walgreens, etc. The ones people spend the money on are the ones made in a low run, charity, or a Funko exclusive. Some are worth up to $15k. Crazy, crazy..... Most of the ones I sell get purchased for $15 and sold when they hit $100. If it's a Funko exclusive it'll hit $100 in a few hours to a couple of months. ... It's addicting lol.

  • Quote from LIhikers: “The Chilkoot Trail has my interest. It's not exactly outside the USA as one end is in Alaska but the other is in Canada. It's 30 something miles over a high pass. The trail follows the route of those who were going to Alaska to strike it rich during the Klondike gold rush. Evidently there are items all along the trail left there by the gold crazed travelers. I've read that it's considered the world's longest museum. ” I think that's the trail Parker from Gold Rush hiked dur…
