  • I am of the opinion that environment and habits should come before medications. Then again, I am not an expert. I suffer from borderline hypertension. I have a wonderful built in indicator. I have had 3 concussions in my life. The last one left me with pulsatile tinnitus. I hear my heart rate in the form of a screech. It is an alarm clock that never goes away. The noise varies with my blood pressure. The higher it is, the louder it is. This has forced me to not ignore my blood pressure. These ar…

  • Building a new cone. Old one does not fit perfectly with latest stove. Developed a new method for joining ends. Self explanatory. Just flip and reverse pattern for inside section. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…5381817f0287cf06d2219e64d

Quote from TrafficJam: “I got my package BirdBrain, thank you soooooooo much!” You are welcome. I sure hope Robin goes to the post office soon to get hers. If she doesn't before the 15 days are up, there will be no stoves going to Australia. Tracking says they are still at post office. They are going to send them back to me soon. Violet, are you out there?

Okay folks. Do not use the aluminum stand. It is not reliable. All it took was one look from someone else to reveal its flaws. Back to other projects.

I will wait for all the feedback. Depending on what I hear, I may end up ordering some 1/16" grade 5 titanium rods. JJ's test has me leaning that way already.

Quote from socks: “I can't help but think that the aluminum is such a thermal efficient conductor that the bends are acting like expansion joints and expanding at the top while the bottoms are still cold so to speak, like having a difference in coefficients, kinda...just typin' out loud here. I don't know. ...be interesting if you could measure the temp difference from top to bottom.” I think this is why my stand is not failing. Aluminum is a great conductor of heat. The pot acts as a heat sink …

I am also working on a simmer ring per AK's query. It does not knock the flame down as much as I expected. Going to try a different design on Monday. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…5381817f0287cf06d2219e64d appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…5381817f0287cf06d2219e64d appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…5381817f0287cf06d2219e64d

Quote from jimmyjam: “Well my test didn't go so well. The stand got too hot and deformed causing the pot to sit on the stove. Oh well, back to beer testing.” This is good information. It is exactly what I am looking for. What type of stove did you use? I suspect my eCHS is on the edge of doing damage to the stand. In testing it so far I have seen no damage. The fact that your stand did not hold up shows that it is close to failure. I will be curious if OMO has similar results. I know he uses an …

Quote from AnotherKevin: “BB, I'd love if you could draft a set of plans and/or instructions for your current design, particularly if it has decent low-temp performance! It would be a plus if it can be adapted to simmer (or if there's a sufficiently lightweight simmer stove that I could pair it with). I'm probably going to have to work on the knack of getting that rolled edge. I've recently used my Penny 2.0 near 0 °F - it works ok, but needs an external primer. I've never melted my pot stand, b…

I use an 8 ounce steel can of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce. It is taller, the bottom is flatter, and it rests on a wider base (the bottom rim). The extra height gives enough thermal feedback to make the stove work well as a Cat stove with the pot resting on the rim. The 9 pressurized jets appear 12 seconds after lighting the stove…

  • Quote from AnotherKevin: “He's back! Hey, I've missed you! How's it going Up North Down East?” Careful AK. Your wicked good understanding of regional expressions might confuse those from away (aka flatlanders). Perhaps I have said too much. Buried. Wicked busy.

  • appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…5381817f0287cf06d2219e64d A note to those that are getting items from me in the mail: Some of you are getting stands for testing and feedback. A couple others are getting other items with the stand. Those that are getting other items as well should check back for the feedback that will hopefully follow from the testers. This stand is hard to show via picture. It is symmetrical and loads are across vertical planes. It does not look like that via picture. Even in per…
